Letizia of Spain, a family outing in Mallorca, but she is cold with her mother-in-law
About a week is missing from the beginning of the new life of the eldest daughter of Letizia of Spain and King Felipe. Leonor, to receive an excellent education, will move away from her family to move to Wales and attend UWC Atlantic College, an institution also attended by other scions of the European monarchies. Despite the geographical distance, however, the heir to the throne he will not be able to evade the surveillance of his grandmother, Queen Sophia emeritus.
Little Ortiz will be able to do now that Leonor is about to take off. To this day, Letizia has been committed to giving her daughter a strict education, with the aim of preparing her for her future as a Queen. The mother-daughter bond, which is deep and based on mutual affection, will be put to the test not only from the distance, but also from the intrusiveness of grandmother Sofia.
The difficult relations between Letizia and her mother-in-law Sofia were immediately visible to everyone. It was Felipe who imposed himself on the marriage with Ortiz, when his parents did not hide their hesitations about the union. Since then, despite momentary rapprochements, no one has been able to mend the tear anymore.
And if Letizia has always tried to avoid the interference of her mother-in-law in the life and education of her daughters, in a future that is no longer distant she will not be able to do much. Queen Sofia, in fact, has an important ally to monitor Leonor’s behavior and progress of education: Noor of Jordan, widow of King Hussein.
Noor and Sofia are very good friends and have been dating for a very long time. And the former Queen of Jordan holds a very important role for the school where Leonor will study. Indeed, it has strong links with the World Schools organization, to which the institute belongs. Since 1995, she has been President of the UWC movement, that is, of the United World Colleges.
Through Noor of Jordan, Sofia will thus be able to have a privileged look on education, and therefore on the future, of her niece Leonor. In short, it could even have a greater influence than that of Letizia and Felipe.
At the moment, however, the Royal Family does not want to think about any problems. Instead, they are all focused on greeting Leonor before his transfer in Wales and avoided planning institutional engagements throughout the week. Will they be able to maintain this peaceful atmosphere in the coming years?
