The usual royal holidays in Palma de Mallorca have come to an end, but Letizia of Spain she hasn’t returned to Zarzuela yet – and apparently she won’t for at least another week. Why is your traditional summer vacation getting so long? It is possible that there is behind this choice Leonor.

But let’s go in order. In the summer Letizia and her husband, King Felipe VI, are used to it spend a few weeks in beautiful Mallorca, along with their daughters. At the end of the public holidays, during which Ortiz and her loved ones do not disdain strolling through the streets and letting themselves be recognized by everyone, the couple generally carve out a few more days – always together with Leonor and Sofia – to go to a private location, away from prying eyes.

Always referring to what we have seen happen in other years, Letizia and Felipe usually return to Madrid in the last days of August, to resume their official commitments. But this summer seems to be different: the Queen consort has not yet returned to the Zarzuela, and according to her agenda she will remain free from any appointment working at least until 5 September. This did not happen to her husband, who visited the temporary reception center at the Torrejon de Ardoz military airport on Saturday 28 August. His mother-in-law, too Queen emeritus Sophia, returned to work, attending the state funeral of Princess Marie of Liechtenstein.

Because Letizia is extending her holidays? Perhaps the “fault” lies with her eldest daughter Leonor: soon the girl will fly to Wales to start her new academic career, finding herself away from home (and her family) for the first time. Towards the middle of August, Leonor attended some days of preparatory training to access the prestigious institute, during which Ortiz’s holidays were therefore interrupted. This is likely why Letizia and Felipe started their private holidays later. And if the King has not been able to postpone his return to Madrid, having therefore to be satisfied with a few days of rest less, his wife would seem to be managed to extend the holidays.
