Just bought a new dog? Owning a dog takes dedication, and it takes a bit of adaptation to get used to the new habits you will have to adopt. We present you two methods on how to get used to a new dog.
Method 1 of 2: Get the Dog Comfortable
.
Leave the dog just so he can look around the house and get used to everything. He doesn’t need any more new things yet, as this is a very big change for him. Wait before grabbing and stroking him.
.
.
Introduce him to his new room. Make sure he’s only in one room or doghouse, so he’s not too scared of all the new people. At first, you just have to put your hand and let the dog sniff you so that it learns how to recognize you.
.
When he starts to trust, try petting him and playing with him.
Method 2 of 2: Adjust Your Role As Dog Owner
.
Earn caring for your new dog. Feed him what he likes best, learning what he does when he wants something and playing with him.
.
.
Establish a schedule of the things you have to do. Owning a dog is a big responsibility, and it requires you to carry out your day-to-day dog care duties. Make sure to adjust his routine, to give him daily meals and walks, as well as less frequent tasks, such as grooming and visits to the vet.
.
.
Learn to be firm. Dogs need rules, remember to be clear about the rules and training right from the start. Set your expectations and don’t hesitate, so the dog can learn quickly.
.
.
Do not stalk the dog. He is not going to want to hang out with you all the time. You will want to hang out with other dogs and people alike.
