(Photo by Netflix) The month of May brings a wealth of new, original content to Netflix. Ryan Murphy’s latest series, Halston, debuts on the 14th and stars Ewan McGregor as the famed fashion designer. There’s also a surprise third season of Master of None — the highest-ranking show on Netflix as far as the Tomatometer is concerned with two seasons Certified Fresh at 100% — that debuts on the 23rd and will focus on Lena Waithe’s character in a new relationship.
The film side brings the long- (long-, long-) anticipated Amy Adams vehicle The Woman in the Window, which was originally headed to theaters in October 2019 before being delayed to 2020 and later moving to Netflix for its eventual 2021 release — plus Zack Snyder’s badass zombie movie The Army of the Dead, starring Guardians of the Galaxy actor Dave Bautista. But tensions rise as the young superheroes, hungry to prove their worth, struggle to live up to their parents’ legendary public reputations — and exacting personal standards. Premiere Date: May 7, 2021 Castlevania: Season 4 (2021) 100% Description: Dracula’s influence looms large as Belmont and Sypha investigate plans to resurrect the notorious vampire.
Her life is turned upside down when she inadvertently witnesses a brutal crime. Based on the gripping, best-selling novel and adapted by Tracy Letts, shocking secrets are revealed and nothing and no one are what they seem in this suspenseful psychological thriller starring Amy Adams, Gary Oldman, Anthony Mackie, Fred Hechinger, Wyatt Russell, Brian Tyree Henry, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Julianne Moore. Premiere Date: May 14, 2021 Army Of The Dead (2021) 67% Description: After a zombie outbreak that has left Las Vegas in ruins and walled off from the rest of the world, Vegas local Scott Ward (Dave Bautista) must break into the zombie-infested quarantine zone to retrieve $200 million sitting in a vault beneath the strip before the city is nuked by the government in 32 hours, and assembles a ragtag team of experts for the heist.
Directed by series co-creator and Emmy winner Aziz Ansari, and scripted by Ansari and Waithe, this new season is a modern love story that intimately illustrates the ups and downs of marriage, struggles with fertility, and personal growth both together and apart. Fleeting romantic highs meet crushing personal losses while existential questions of love and living are raised. Co-created by Ansari and Emmy Award winner Alan Yang, season 3 delivers an evolution of the series that remains tethered to previous seasons while breaking new storytelling ground of its own.
