Lady Diana, the life and death of the People’s Princess
Principles William and Harry they will be together on July 1st for the memorial of the late mother, Lady Diana Spencer. But apparently their rapprochement will not only be public. There is great anticipation to see the two brothers once again side by side, especially after the various “push and pull” that Meghan Markle’s husband wanted away from London and absent from the ceremony.
Now it is certain, Harry has already traveled to the UK with a few days in advance and will be present. But the Telegraph has launched an unexpected news in these hours: apparently the Princes have planned a private meeting after the event dedicated to the Princess of Wales to be held in Sunken Garden of Kensington Palace, Lady D’s beloved home and where William currently resides with Kate Middleton and children George, Charlotte and Louis.
Relations between William and Harry have been tense for some time and there was no lack of disagreements between the two, between vitriolic statements and mutual accusations where the leitmotif is (almost) always just her: Meghan Markle. Away from the cameras, the Princes will therefore have a face to face that could be important opportunity to clarify and finally put an end to the disputes between the two.
The private meeting could be the consequence of Harry’s unexpected public outing who, just a few days ago on his return to Great Britain, attended the virtual ceremony of the Diana Awards. Only a video, but which literally made the spectators jump and in which the Prince showed himself conciliatory towards his brother William, somehow expressing the desire for a rapprochement with him and his family.
Many Royal Family experts seem to agree that this private meeting could really be an opportunity to clarify everything, once and for all. For return to topics that were more than divisive and which seem to have created an irreparable rift between the Princes. How can we forget William’s harsh accusations against Meghan, accused of having been “ruthless” with the Buckingham Palace staff to the point of expelling the couple.
Not to mention the Megxit and Harry’s final estrangement from his family and the UK, as well asbomb interview released by the couple to Oprah Winfrey, with harsh accusations against the Royal Family. The Prince lives in California with Meghan Markle and their children Archie and Lilibet Diana, the latest arrival in the house and she too – albeit indirectly – is a cause for discussion. Lilibet was, in fact, the nickname that Prince Philip used for his beloved Queen Elizabeth and somehow both subjects and pundits alike saw Harry and Meghan’s choice as a real affront towards the Sovereign.
Royal expert Robert Lacey, author of the book Battle of Brothers, told Newsweek that Harry is the only one of the two brothers. ready to admit having made mistakes and to make amends for his behavior in the past two years. However Lacey also admitted that William and Kate would not be of the same opinion: “On the one hand we have William who doesn’t seem willing to concede anything, believes he has done nothing wrong and on the other Harry, who would not mind reconciling. Then there is Meghan firm on her positions: it is regrettable that she does not even take a small step back. Why can’t he say he was under pressure? It would be enough for him to say ‘I was getting used to this incredibly complicated system, I was just pregnant, I couldn’t sleep … Maybe looking back I can say I exaggerated’. Both sides should say that the past is over“.
We’ll see, meanwhile, the expectation is growing for the ceremony on Thursday 1 July in the Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace. Here Harry and William will be the protagonists of the unveiling of the statue dedicated to the late mother, created by the sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley who will be present at the event along with a few guests, including the closest relatives of Lady D.
