Maxima of Holland, the futurist dress that plays with transparencies
“I didn’t do anything, I don’t deserve them”. These are the reasons behind the recent renunciation of Amalia of Holland, which has decided to do without its royal prerogative because it is not deserving – according to him – to obtain this privilege.
The no to the staggering figure (we are talking about one million and 300 thousand euros) would be an example if, behind this decision, it was not marred by the shadow of a strategy. If this were to be the case, the real reasons would not be long in coming to light. For the time being, these have been the statements of the eldest daughter of Willem Alexander and Queen Máxima, returned directly to the Prime Minister Marke Rutte: “I find this very uncomfortable, at least until I have done nothing to deserve it, especially now that other students are experiencing a difficult time in this uncertain period of Coronavirus”.
This popular choice of hers will surely appeal to the many who have already complained about the mere possibility that such a young girl received such a high income, even if belonging to the Royal family. The decision, which was also welcomed with some pride by some Members, may however not be accidental.
The position taken by Amalia D’Olanda also represents a first time for the Orange-Nassau, since none of them, before now, had given up their royal prerogative. The costs of the Dutch monarchy are to turn heads and are established among the highest in Europe, with a cost of around 47.5 million euros for fixed fees only and without considering, therefore, the maintenance of buildings, state travel the King’s wages (all tax-free income). One might think that the family is setting their own accounts, starting to re-enter expenses with the renunciation of Amalia, who said she was ready to say no to her prerogative.
The money destined for Amalia, however, would not be comparable to a real salary. The sums he has decided to give up are set aside for his studies and his training. They will therefore have a fixed duration, which will end at the very end of her student career.
According to the Dutch media, it would seem that Amalia is ready to give up her studies to devote herself to a alternative training, made up of experiences in the field and many trips. His future is still uncertain and we still don’t know what he decided to do after high school, which he has already finished.
The fate of his sister Alexia is already sealed and will be defined in Wales. The princess and heir to the throne of Holland will attend the same college as Leonor of Spain, daughter of King Felipe and his beloved Reina Letizia.
Despite her young age, Amalia already behaves like one future sovereign giving an example of great maturity and integrity, as well as of a humanity that is sometimes lacking among those born in the ranks of the Royal bloodlines.
