Meghan Markle, the second pregnancy
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are bis parents. On June 4th their second child was born and the announcement of the name, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, immediately attracted great attention and, above all, divided public opinion between those who support the couple’s choice and those who, on the other hand, accuse them of having taken an inappropriate decision after the farewell to the Royal Family.
The girl’s name it is clearly a tribute to Queen Elizabeth, to whom the Duke of Sussex is deeply attached despite the misunderstandings of the last period, and to Lady Diana Spencer, Harry’s mother. At least apparently, therefore, the choice would have been inspired by the two women of the Royal Family who had the most influence in the life of the Prince.
The decision of the Dukes of Sussex, however, hides also a reference that has gone unnoticed to Doria Ragland, Meghan Markle’s mother. Lilibet, in fact, is not only the nickname with which the Queen was called by her parents and by Prince Philip, but also a name with clear floral references. Harry and Meghan, in everyday life, will call the little girl with the diminutive Lili, which comes from ‘lily’ and means, in fact, lily.
The floral nickname, as revealed by People magazine, is closely related to Markle’s childhood. It was she, in the past, who confessed through her blog The Tig, closed after getting engaged to Prince Harry, that among her nicknames was ‘Flower’, ‘flower’. Only the mother Doria used it. Thus, the name of her daughter also hides a sweet meaning linked to the person most important to her in her family.
On the other hand, Meghan is not new to hiding important references in her gestures and in her works. Recently the Duchess of Sussex published a children’s book written by her, ‘The Bench’, and dedicated to Harry and little Archie. There are many cartoons that portray father and son in different situations. One, however, was dedicated to the little one Lilibet Diana who, at the time Markle was writing, had yet to be born.
It is a tender illustration, created by the artist Christian Robinson, which portrays Markle holding her baby girl. And this is it the first image of Lilibet Diana. The reference, of course, does not satiate the curiosity of those who can’t wait to see a photo of the baby. Will the Dukes of Sussex show it anytime soon?
