Meghan Markle, Archie turns two
Meghan Markle wins again against the British tabloids, taking home one new victory in court. The Sussexes have long since left Britain, but their war against the press accused of defaming the former Suits star.
Earlier this year Meghan (and Harry) had achieved a striking victory, winning the case against the publisher of the tabloid The Mail on Sunday, accused of having published the private letter sent to her father Thomas without Markle’s consent. Last May 5th at the High Court of London A remote hearing was held and the judge ruled that the former actress is the sole copyright owner of the famous letter.
The letter was sent three months after Harry’s wedding to Thomas Markle, Meghan’s dad. The man, absent from the wedding at the behest of the Royal Family, was at the time involved in a very unpleasant affair, accused of having sold photos to British tabloids, putting the Crown embarrassed. In previous hearings, the editor of The Mail on Sunday and MailOnline defended itself by stating that Harry’s wife was not the only one holding the copyright to the letter. Jason KnaufIn fact, communications manager at Kensington Palace had seen the draft and helped Meghan write it.
During the hearing, however, Knauf, the Queen’s loyalist, denied having ever participated in the drafting of the letter. As People reports: “Knauf did not and never claimed to have drafted any part of the draft letter.” Meghan would therefore have written the letter herself, they begin writing in the first week of August 2018 in the Notes app on your iPhone.
He would then show Knauf the draft to keep senior Royal Family members informed of possible public reactions. “Apparently Knauf would have provided some” general ideas “- it reads – for the letter, such as mentioning his father’s poor health, but otherwise it was only the Duchess’s letter”.
According to many, behind Knauf’s decisive statements, which allowed Meghan Markle to win another battle in court, there is the Queen. The Sovereign seems determined to mend the relationship with the Sussexes after stormy months, marked by Megxit, the interview-scandal with Oprah Winfrey and the death of Prince Philip. Meghan’s victory is undoubtedly one more step, after the rapprochement between William and Harry thanks to Kate Middleton, to find peace in the family.
