Funeral of Prince Philip: date, place, present and absent and where to see him on TV
The Queen Elizabeth approves the dress code for Prince Philip’s funeral: none of the members of the Royal Family will wear the military uniform and so saves Harry and Andrea from embarrassment.
In an unprecedented decision, the Daily Mail notes, Her Majesty imposed mourning robes to attend her husband’s funeral, avoiding military uniforms. A truly magnanimous gesture towards his nephew Harry who could not have worn the uniform, as he was forced to resign from military posts after the Megxit. On the other hand, his son Andrea, who was sent into retirement after the Epstein scandal, also did not have the right to wear uniform.
Once again, therefore, the Queen’s intervention saved the Royal Family from unnecessary inconvenience and once again found the solution to make everyone appear united, without internal discrepancies and discrimination.
According to the Court tradition, in fact, on solemn occasions such as the funeral of a prince, members of the Royal Family should have worn the high uniforms. Therefore, we would have found ourselves in the embarrassing situation of seeing Carlo, Edoardo, Anna and William in uniform, but not Harry who would have had to show up in civilian clothes with possibly the military medals. A contrast that would have fueled the gossip about the relationship between Carlo’s second son and Diana and his relatives, just now that a crack seems to open with his brother William after the phone call a few days ago.
The atmosphere would therefore have become even more complicated, while in an event as sad as the last farewell of the Duke of Edinburgh it is good that the Royal Family shows itself more united than ever.
The Queen, in order to preserve the unity of the family and spare Harry any public humiliation, imposed a dress code that is the same for everyone: black coat and tie for men, simple black suit for women.
It is believed to be only the second time in a century that the Royal Family has not worn military uniforms at a funeral for a high court member. Elizabeth’s decision, which should be made official by Buckingham Palace, has been interpreted as a gesture of peace, yet another, towards her rebellious nephew and his wife Meghan Markle, remained in California officially because she was pregnant, but according to rumors because she wanted to avoid being the center of attention.
