The highlighter and contour help you to highlight the shape of your face, highlighting the cheekbones and refining your round face. Many times, in daily makeup, we do not use highlighting or contouring. Normally we apply blush or bronzing powder and that’s it. But if we get used to defining our face, you will see that it will not take much time.
There are several ways to contour and highlight and the areas that you want to highlight or hide will depend on the shape of your face. But the general rule is:
1) Apply light color in the areas that we want to highlight and make more prominent.
2) Apply dark color in the areas that we want to hide.
Thus, for example, if your face is round or you have a large jaw, you will apply a darker tone in this area to give the appearance of having a more refined face. As a general rule, these are the areas where we will apply each one:

But if, for example, you have a very prominent chin, we will not apply highlighter in that area. Of course, as in everything, the case is to practice and see what suits you best.
There are also days when you are in a hurry or you don’t feel like doing all these steps. Apply the contour in a 3 shape at the temples, below the cheekbone and down to the chin on the outside, and apply the highlighter to the arch of the brow and to the outside of the cheekbone.
The important thing in any case is to blend well so that the cut is not noticeable and that the products you use mix well with each other.
You can make the contour and illuminator with cream concealers, in this case we would do it before applying the makeup base, so that the products melt and blend better. If you use powdered products, I prefer to apply them on top of makeup, just like blush.
