More than a year after its debut in September 2020, creator Kenny Ortega has revealed Netflix has decided not to move ahead with Julie and the Phantoms season 2. Taking to Instagram on Dec. 18, Ortega revealed that Netflix had officially notified the cast and crew that it would not be picking the fan-favorite series up for a second season.
Is Julie and the Phantoms canceled? Unfortunately, Julie and the Phantoms will not be returning for a second season. While Netflix has not officially confirmed the show’s cancellation directly, series creator Kenny Ortega took to Instagram on Dec. 18 to confirm he had been notified by Netflix that it would not be moving forward with a second season.
Due to Netflix’s decision not to move forward with a second season, there appear to be no plans for a second season of Julie and the Phantoms. While there is a chance a competitor could look to step in and save the show, there do not seem to be any reports that the series will be shopped around with Kenny Ortega suggesting the series is officially complete encouraging fans to “follow us as we move forward with our work and careers,” rather than rallying them to fight for a second season elsewhere. As such, it does not appear Julie and the Phantoms season 2 will be happening at Netflix or anywhere else.

When Did Julie And The Phantoms First Hit Netflix?

The coming-of-age story followed stars Madison Reyes, Charlie Gillespie, Owen Joyner, Jeremy Shada, Booboo Stewart, Cheyenne Jackson, Carlos Ponce, Sonny Bustamante, Jadah Marie, Sacha Carlson, and Savannah Lee May after the ghosts of three dreamy musicians from 1995 appear in main character Julie’s music studio just as she loses her passion for music.
The actress also teamed up with costars Owen and Charlie for an Instagram Live in June 2021 and updated fans on the future of the show. While they didn’t confirm anything just yet, the stars definitely pleaded with Netflix for more episodes. “It seems like they’re working on it, but no official pickup yet,” Charlie said at the end of the cast’s livestream.
“Although our hearts are saddened, we move on with such pride for what we accomplished as a team and the family we built while creating Julie. We hope you will continue to follow us as we move forward with our work and careers.” Since binge-watching the entire first season in one sitting, fans have seriously been wondering if there’s a season 2 in the works.
“It’s even harder to be in a relationship with somebody in your own band, and it’s even harder to be in a relationship with somebody that’s dead.” Descendants star Sarah Jeffery also wants to make a guest-starring role in the possible second season, and we’re so here for it! When a fan took to Twitter and asked the actress, “Would you like to guest star on Julie and the Phantoms?” she responded with, “YES 100X YES.”
