Oral hygiene is the basis not only of a beautiful smile, but of mouth health.
Healthy teeth and gums allow you to avoid annoying diseases deriving from the presence of plaque, such as gingivitis, halitosis, tooth decay and inflammation.
There are two secrets for proper hygiene: the right tools and the constancy. The teeth do indeed go washed daily twice a day. It is essential to dedicate the right time to clean properly and not to forget any corner. One of the most useful tips for maintaining a beautiful smile is to quit smoking.
A fundamental and reference figure for oral hygiene is the dental hygienist, which is not only concerned with making the teeth cleaning every 6 months, but is able to understand the health of the mouth.
Furthermore, not least, it is its importance in giving targeted and ad hoc indications based on the personal situation of each one.
Brush
The brush it is the main tool for having good oral hygiene. There are two types: manual and electric. The dental hygienist, according to the situation of each one, will recommend the best one. The rule that applies to both is to always use a predetermined path for cleaning: start, for example, from the upper arch and start with the external part, continue with the internal one and finish with the chewing part.
The same will be done for the lower arch.
The manual toothbrush it is used by accomplishing circular movements at the junction of the teeth to break up the plaque, then moving the residues towards the central part of the mouth (for the upper arch downwards, while for the lower teeth upwards). The brushing technique is essential for good cleaning.
As for the electric toothbrush, it is essential to choose one with the pressure sensor so as to avoid pressing too much and unnecessarily on the teeth. Its optimal use requires that it is gently placed on the tooth, reaching the edge of the gum and left to act for 2/3 seconds.
Dental floss
Another indispensable safeguard is the dental floss, which serves for remove the plaque between the teeth and for this reason it must be used daily. You can use classic dental floss or in the form of forks. In both cases the floss must be placed between the teeth and with gentle back-and-forth movements bring it to the edge of the gum.
Pipe cleaner
A much underestimated tool in oral hygiene is the pipe cleaner. In fact, it is an essential garrison as it goes to remove plaque in small places between the teeth, where dental floss and brush cannot reach. But how is it used? It slips between the teeth, in contact with the gum and makes some back and forth movements. At first, it may seem like a cumbersome job, but after some time using it, you won’t be able to do without the pipe cleaner.
Plaque-revealing tablets
A very simple way to find out if your teeth are brushed correctly is to use them weekly plaque revealing pads. But what is it about? They are nothing more than tablets that can be found in pharmacies (but also on Amazon) and, once dissolved in the mouth, color the teeth purple where plaque is present. This way you can improve your cleaning techniques and find out which areas are not being cleaned properly.
