The Coronavirus and the pandemic have upset our lives on all fronts, but one of the most obvious consequences (negative or not) has been smart working. Yes, of course, working from home has its positive sides, it leaves us more comfortable and allows us to organize our day better.
But above all it has negative implications, such as the change of routine, a more sedentary life, the disappearance of a clear gap between work and private life and many back or neck pains. This last element is due to a wrong posture while working. Let’s see below what pandemic posture is and tips on how to improve it.
Pandemic posture: what is it?
Improvised desks, chairs that are not ergonomic and not comfortable at all, living rooms and kitchens like new offices: this is the pandemic posture.
Or rather, what causes it. Also called pandemic posture, it is one incorrect posture that we tend to assume during our working days because of how and where we work.
In fact, there are those among us who sit on an armchair and put the computer on their legs, those who manage to occupy a small corner of the table in the kitchen for calls. And again, who is forced to work on the bed for lack of other free places.
In conclusion, smart working and the pandemic have literally revolutionized our way and place of work, imposing on us uncomfortable positions and forcing us to share domestic spaces with our family.
And so, all these efforts manifested on a physical level with back and neck pain. Lowering the head on the computer or straining the back on chairs that are not comfortable at all are actions to be avoided if we want to safeguard our health.
Tips on how to improve your posture
It goes without saying that the consequences of back or neck pain can cause even more serious problems, for example in the lower back or damage the posture forever. Here are the tips that should be followed to try to prevent problems of this type or to improve posture:
Attention to the session
The first thing to absolutely change is the workstation. Whether it is a chair, an armchair, a sofa, a bed, it is good to choose a comfortable chair. If you don’t have an office one, it is advisable put a pillow behind to protect the lower back and prevent the spine from bending.
Pay attention to the height of the computer
As in the previous case, in the same way, the computer must also be adjusted according to your height and position, so as not to bend the head and neck downwards. A good tip is to raise and adjust the computer station adding books below that allow us to have it at eye level.
Get up every two hours
Finally, a last tip is to change position every two hours, getting up, walking around the house and doing stretching so as not to accustom the body and back to a single posture.
