It might seem obvious, but you never repeat it enough: being a woman also involves menstruating. A topic which, although natural, still seems to be prohibited in too many countries around the world. The street artist aleXsandro Palombo once again uses the walls of Milan for his new series of drawings, this time dedicated to World Menstrual Igniene Day, entitled “Break the Taboo”, literally translated “Breaking the taboo”.
L’target is that of raise awareness on topics like tampon tax is period poverty. But what all this has to do with Kim Kardashian is Marge Simpson?

One is a ‘world famous American influencer, the other is there caring wife and mother from a famous cartoon. Both appeared on the walls of Milan portrayed by the street artist aleXsandro Palombo in a singular way: the Kardashian is drawn in a mystical pose, almost reminiscent of a Madonna covered only by a blue veil, Marge Simpson it is instead a reference to the famous click of Richars Avedon, who in 1992 photographed the model Stephanie Seymour.
So what do the two pop icons have in common? They are women and as such, they menstruate and are in fact portrayed as follows: with the cycle on display.
The initiative is alone the last in chronological order of the artist aleXsandro Palombo, already famous for his art who is committed to raising awareness on social topics of all kinds and to support human rights of people of any gender or nationality to which one society still too macho, seems not to want to listen properly.
Who is aleXsandro Palombo
As this is not his first initiative, it is not even the first time that the street artist uses well-known faces in international pop culture to raise awareness on very important social issues. The protagonists of his art were true icons like the princess Lady Diana, provocatively portrayed with the features one Disney princess, but bulimic is without prince charming or first ladies of political leaders world famous, like Michelle Obama or Hilary Clinton, portrayed together with other icons, with the swollen face from violence suffered.
Marge Simpson and Kim Kardashian had also been previously portrayed by the artist. The first appeared together with the whole family designed by Matt Groening for the “Who is next?” series, a tribute to George Floyd and to all victims, like him, of racism. The second, on the other hand, had already been portrayed for a campaign against domestic abuse.
World menstrual hygiene day
The May 28 is the day on which the world menstrual hygiene day, established to obstruct any taboo linked to the subject and instead favor information.
Two of the still unresolved issues, also in Italy, concern the tampon tax and the period poverty, or the taxes on sanitary napkins and theimpossibility for some women to cope withpurchase of goods they should be primary, in order to safeguard hygiene e to be able to live the menstrual cycle with dignity.
