There International Day of Menstrual Hygiene, which is celebrated on May 28, is the ideal opportunity to reaffirm the importance of hygiene for women, but also the need to overcome all those prejudices or taboos related to the menstrual cycle.
The International Day of Menstrual Hygiene
This is born with a precise target: overcome taboos and prejudices that revolve around the nature of women. The menstrual cycle is still seen as a reason why women cannot do a range of activities, a topic on which it is better not to speak out in public, a an aspect that inhibits many women. To the detriment of the fact that it is a physiological and natural aspect!
Hence the initiative of Intimina which connects to this special day by making public the stories of many women that through their experiences try to raise awareness among the general public.
Women’s menstruation stories find voice with the hashtag #whilebleeding through an operation promoted by line of compact menstrual cups in medical silicone.
Absorbents, tampons or cups?
Many women have probably wondered at least once what to use during their menstrual cycle: tampons, sanitary pads or the latest cups? Also in this case, each choice depends on how you feel more or less in a condition of comfort, so it varies from person to person.
Of course the choice of absorbent is not the most sustainable even if eco-compatible lines have been marketed.
Furthermore, the absorbent, depending on the material with which it is made, sometimes risks causing irritation, rashes and discomfort therefore also the type of absorbent must be considered in the light of specific skin reactions. An excellent solution to this, they could be cotton pads produced by different companies.
Why is the cup the most hygienic choice?
Finally the cup it is definitely the most “luminary” as it is the most recent option compared to sanitary towels. Although the majority tend not to consider buying a cup at all and start using it instead of sanitary pads, the cup actually turns out to be the right choice on different profiles. It’s more ecological since it takes us away from the “disposable” continuum but even more hygienic since, on the front of vaginal infections it reduces their spread. So, for example, it is a concrete solution to the risk of candida.
Greater awareness also of endometriosis
To celebrate this day, Intimina has launched a fundraising campaign to fight what is called “period poverty”. For each menstrual cup sold on their site, from May 18 until June 14, the company will donate 5 euros to APE Onlus (Endometriosis Project Association) a national association with the aim of informing and making people aware ofendometriosis.
Endometriosis is a chronic, benign female disease that causes the accumulation of endometrial cells outside the uterine system. Unfortunately endometriosis is difficult to diagnose, so it is important to know what it is, to know the causes and symptoms, in order to catch it in time. Finally, endometriosis, although still little known and sometimes underestimated, affects many women. Therefore it is essential that a large-scale awareness is also based on information about this female disease.
