How to quit smoking with a conscious path and without prohibitions

Scientific studies show that the smoke, not only is it the second leading cause of death worldwide and the leading cause of avoidable death, it also plays an important role in the onset of many other diseases.

The fight for smoking cessation, however, is a difficult path for everyone to undertake and carry out, especially on an individual level.

The Fresh Air project – Breathe health I don’t smoke

For this reason Perfect Van Melle announces the company project Fresh Air – Respira salute non smoking in collaboration with a partner of great experience and authority such as the Italian League for the Fight against Cancer – LILT Milano Monza Brianza, which for over 70 years has been at the forefront of the dissemination of culture of prevention as a way of life.

For the company that obtained the Top Employer Italia certification last January, this project is part of a broader program aimed at enhancing people and protecting the well-being and health of employees at 360 °, a priority and an indispensable value for the Perfetti Van Melle Group, and which now also translates into a social commitment towards the whole community.

Thanks to the support of Lilt, in the course of 2021 a series of initiatives with different objectives will be organized that will involve the entire company population to help smokers to abandon the cigarette through a conscious path, not with prohibitions and frightening warnings, and which will bring Perfetti van Melle to become a “smoke-free” company.

The first tangible result of Fresh Air will be, in fact, to completely free the internal and external company spaces from active and passive smoke, starting from Lainate.

“We focus on information, awareness and participation to help our smoking colleagues to choose a path of cessation, which will at the same time lead to having all our internal and external work environments” smoke free “starting from January 2022” says Samuele Marri, Human Resources director of Perfetti Van Melle.

The main steps of the project

– Meetings and webinars open to all and conducted by psychologists, doctors and nutritionist biologists of Lilt, dedicated to topics such as healthy eating, early diagnosis and practical ideas for smoking cessation;

– An addiction course offered to the approximately 200 smokers of the company, through a preliminary meeting with a specialized psychologist and 4 individual meetings if necessary;

– A survey to collect employee sentiment and allow everyone to come up with ideas on how to give a new function to the spaces currently used as smoking areas.

In parallel, Perfetti van Melle has chosen to support an important project by Lilt for childcare, Le case del cuore. The donation of the confectionery company will support “Le case del cuore”, the apartments that welcome children and their families from all over Italy and abroad to undergo cancer treatments.

The welcome includes not only the possibility of staying in these houses, but also the support of psychologists, social workers and Lilt volunteers to make the difficult period of treatment more peaceful.
