The symptoms are those of a normal persistent back pain but it is a much more serious and disabling disease: axial spondyloarthrtitis, which requires the intervention of a rheumatologist and can lead to important consequences if not diagnosed in time.
False back pain: what it is
False back pain, in medical jargon axial spondyloarthritis, is a chronic inflammatory joint disease that mainly affects young people between the ages of 20 and 30, mainly males but can also affect women. It is a disabling disease that can be confused, in symptoms, with a common frequent back pain but it is something much more serious that requires the intervention of a specialized doctor, the rheumatologist.
THE symptoms of axial spondyloarthritis are, in addition to back pain in the lumbar area, also one stiffness of the spine therefore a loss of flexibility of the same, which can also compromise the movement of the neck. The inflammation can therefore affect the entire area of the spine, but also the joints such as the hips, hands and feet and even the shoulders. In particular, if not treated in time, it can lead to forms of calcifications that cause a lot of pain in the movements and that can compromise the simplest actions we do every day.
False back pain, what it is and how to diagnose it
In Italy, about 200 thousand cases of axial spondyloarthritis have been diagnosed, but the correct diagnosis of the disease almost always came very late: 7 years is the average of the diagnosis of this disabling disorder. An immense time for a disease that can cause serious irreversible damage, such as the so-called “bamboo cane” spine. In fact, the spine, due to axial spondyloarthritis, can become rigid to the point of preventing simple and daily movements such as bending or twisting the neck. In fact, this disease can lead to a calcification of the soft tissues of the spine, which becomes rigid as a bamboo cane.
It has also been shown that spondyloarthritis is often linked to another skin disease, the psoriasis. It can be treated with the same innovative drugs that are used to treat axial spondyloarthritis.

False back pain, what it is and how to cure it
Before arriving at the right treatment for axial spondyloarthritis many years passed, during which patients suffering from this disease were treated with anti-inflammatory and palliative treatments which have not in the least resolved or affected this disease which affects especially young people.
Today, however, there are new effective and targeted drugs to fight the disease. These are so-called biological drugs, in particular the ixekizumab, which is able to stop or slow down the progress of the disease in about 90% of cases. This biotechnological drug is monoclonal, that is, it is specific for this disease and acts in a targeted manner to fight it and counteract calcification, also significantly reducing the excruciating pain that axial spondyloarthritis can bring with it. Even diagnoses, with new studies and research, are becoming more and more precocious.
