No pajamas and casual looks, absolutely in presence without the possibility of video connection from home: the rules and the dress code of the 2021 Oscars.
The rules of the 2021 Oscars
For the 2021 Oscars awards ceremony, which will take place in April, strict rules are established to be respected.
At the time of Covid, many award evenings were held in a different way than usual, often in video call from home or in mixed mode. This does not apply to the Oscars: given the importance of the event, producers Steven Soderbergh, Stacey Sher and Jesse Collins wanted the ceremony to take place face to face on the usual red carpet.
Obviously, to protect everyone’s health, entry will be limited to a well-defined number of people and they will carpet pads with instant results.
Furthermore, for those arriving from outside Los Angeles, they will be given precise instructions on how to behave. In short, red carpet yes but with all the protections. The 2021 Oscars ceremony will be shorter than usual. All the stars must present themselves, without the possibility of connecting via video call from the sofa at home.
Oscar 2021: dress code
The Golden Globes 2021 had been carried out in mixed mode: some actors on video call from home, others on stage with the presenters.
The outfit of the stars during the Golden Globes 2021 it had been quite singular. Many of them, connected from the sofa at home or from the garden, had shown off looks that clashed with the usual formal outfit of this type of events. Jodie Foster, for example, wore pajamas, which, even if signed by Prada, was absolutely not suitable for the ceremony. Even the actor Bill Murray had been wearing a floral shirt, Hawaiian style, and connected to the Golden Globes from his backyard while sipping a martini.
For the 2021 Oscars, the organizers have decided to avoid these eventualities by sending a letter to all the guests in which they expressly describe the dress code and the rules for participation. Clothing will have to be absolutely formal, as it always was before the pandemic: it is therefore a no to pajamas, jumpsuits and casual outfits.
