It’s time to look ahead at what’s set to leave Netflix in the United States throughout the month of December 2021. The month is going to see some notable big departures including all six seasons of Glee and a few other beloved shows too. Now you may notice our list looks considerably different to other outlets online.
Netflix’s own interface generally now displays the last day to watch. For those unaware of how removals work on Netflix, it all comes down to licensing. Netflix doesn’t own all of its library and rents from other providers such as Warner Brothers, Sony or Disney.
This list will be updated throughout November 2021 (don’t miss all the November 2021 removals here) and we’ll receive an extended list from Netflix in the two weeks leading up to December 2021. What Is The Name Of The 2014 Biographical Romantic Drama That Stars Eddie Redmayne As Famed Theoretical Physicist Stephen Hawking?
Netflix is removing a number of films and TV shows from its streaming library this December. Movies leaving the platform this month include dramas The Theory of Everything and Lee Daniels’ The Butler, both of which will disappear in the middle of the month on Dec. 15. The 2014 biographical romantic drama Theory of Everything stars Eddie Redmayne as famed theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking opposite frequent collaborator Felicity Jones as his wife Jane.
The film also stars Charlie Cox, Emily Watson, Simon McBurney, Christian McKay, Harry Lloyd and David Thewlis. The historical and award-winning drama Lee Daniels’ The Butler debuted just a year before Theory of Everything, and was inspired by Wil Haygood’s Washington Post article “A Butler Well Served by This Election.” Directed and co-produced by Daniels, starring Forest Whitaker and featuring an all-star cast that includes Oprah Winfrey, Jane Fonda, Terrence Howard, James Marsden, David Oyelowo, Liev Schreiber, Robin Williams and Mariah Carey, among others, the film chronicles parts of the real life of Eugene Allen, who worked for decades in the White House.
Award-winning dramas Gladiator, Memoirs of a Geisha, American Gangster, Cold Mountain and Titanic are all leaving at the end of the month on Dec. 31. TV series slated to leave the streamer in the last month of 2021 include all four seasons of the Lee Pace-led AMC drama Halt and Catch Fire, which traces the 1980s personal computer revolution and the rapid explosion of the World Wide Web that followed in the ’90s. All six seasons of Grey’s Anatomy spinoff Private Practice are also expected to be removed from Netflix on Dec. 21.

As 2020 draws to a close, Netflix subscribers will also have to bid farewell to The Office, as the beloved NBC sitcom is set to make its move to NBCUniversal’s own streaming service, Peacock. The Office, as recently as last year, was the No. 1 show across all subscription video on demand services, according to NBCUniversal.
And Netflix is set to lose a number of well-known acquired TV series throughout the month, including The West Wing, Gossip Girl, Dexter, Nurse Jackie and Hart of Dixie. In addition to these series, Netflix is also bidding farewell to movies like the Indiana Jones series, the Back to the Future trilogy, The Notebook, The Town, Baby Mama, Being John Malkovich, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Her, Fargo, Frida, The Lobster, The Interview, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Wreck-It Ralph 2, the 1990 version of The Witches and two recent versions of The Grinch, the 2018 animated film featuring the voice of Benedict Cumberbatch and the 2000 live-action film starring Jim Carrey. But even though this content is on its way out, Netflix has announced a large slate of new additions that will debut throughout the month.

What Is The Cycle Of Our Modern Streaming Lives?
Netflix giveth, and Netflix taketh away. That is the cycle of our modern streaming lives. We’re not going lie, there are going to be some tough losses in December.
The good news is you still have plenty of time to binge before that happens—and they’re adding so many new titles you’ll hardly have time to miss Serena, Blair, Michael, Jim, Pam, CJ, and Josh. We promise. You’ll be okay.

What Season Of Gossip Girl Is On The Chopping Block?
Start preparing your Gossip Girl farewells, Upper East Siders, because we now know what’s leaving Netflix in December, and the beloved YA drama is on the chopping block. Luckily, there’s plenty new on Netflix in December, but is there enough to ease the bitterness of losing Gossip Girl? All six seasons of the show are departing the platform after years on Netflix.
The likely reason? The Gossip Girl reboot extension is currently filming in New York City ahead of its premiere on HBO Max; it’s very possible the OG Gossip Girl episodes could end up on HBO Max as well. That isn’t the only loss this month.
Oh and fans of The Office, we’ve got some bad news for you: all nine seasons of the fan-favorite show are shuffling off Netflix by the end of the year. Start preparing your holiday marathons accordingly! Below, check out the full list of what’s leaving Netflix in December.
What Is The Last Month Of The Year On Netflix?
The beginning of a new month signals the latest change-up in the movies and TV shows available for streaming on Netflix , but December isn’t just any month. It’s the last month of the year, which means a lot of licensing deals are expiring. Below, you’ll see a long list of film and TV titles.
The Office, which has perhaps become the default Netflix watch referenced in countless dating app profiles, is finally saying goodbye to its time on the platform and heading toward the exclusive domain of NBC’s own streaming app, Peacock. Other popular multi-season binge watches like The West Wing and Gossip Girl are also departing. If you still haven’t finished any of these series (or big movie franchises like Indiana Jones and Back to the Future), use the holiday time off well!
