Unlike the Dutton family’s sprawling Montana empire on the show, the Four Sixes is the real thing — an operating ranch near Guthrie. GUTHRIE, Texas — Yellowstone is set in the mountains of Montana, but the show’s second home might be Texas. Taylor Sheridan, the show’s creator and lead writer, grew up near Cranfills Gap, and the Yellowstone prequel, 1883, was filmed in the Fort Worth Stockyards in September.
And unlike the Dutton family’s sprawling Montana empire on the show, the Four Sixes is the real thing — an operating ranch near Guthrie, about four hours west of Dallas. Is the Four Sixes Ranch a real place? The Four Sixes covers a sprawling 260,000 acres across two locations: the headquarters near Guthrie, and the Dixon Creek Ranch in the Texas Panhandle, near Borger.
It’s hard to get much bigger than 260,000 acres, and few ranches in Texas are. Four Sixes’ acreage can’t cover a state, but it’s bigger than Dallas, with room to spare. Capt. Samuel Burk Burnett founded the ranch in 1870, buying 100 head of cattle that had the 6666 brand, according to the ranch.
In 1980, Burnett’s great-granddaughter, Anne W. Marion, of Fort Worth, took control of the Four Sixes until her death in 2020. How did the Four Sixes get its name? The story relayed by the ranch is simple as that: Burnett named the land after the first brand he saw on his new cattle.
Four sixes. How much is the Four Sixes Ranch worth? The ranch appears likely to stick around as a storyline in Yellowstone this season.
How Many Acres Is The 6666 Ranch?
Fans of the popular Kevin Costner-led drama, Yellowstone, were thrilled to learn of the spin-off series, 6666, in the pipeline and we explore where the real 6666 Ranch is located. 6666 is the second spin-off to join the Yellowstone franchise, after the prequel series, 1883, released its first trailer starring Sam Elliot, Tim McGraw, and Billy Bob Thornton. Yellowstone recently set up the second spin-off story, which looks set to focus on the character, Jimmy, and his relocation to the 6666 Ranch.
The real 6666 Ranch, or Four Sixes Ranch, is a 260,000-acre piece of land located in King County, Texas – just outside of Guthrie. Burnett purchased 100 cattle under the 6666 brand from Frank Crowley in Denton, Texas, and the ranch now encompasses the Four Sixes Ranch headquarters and the Dixon Creek Ranch – in between Panhandle and Borger. Is 6666 being filmed at the real location?
The Star-Telegram (via Newsweek) reported that Yellowstone creator, Taylor Sheridan, and his group bought the property in December 2020. Additionally, Yellowstone previously filmed parts of season 4 at the 6666 Ranch, which makes the likelihood of the spin-off filming there very high. Actor Kelly Reilly also shared to her Instagram that she was at the 6666 Ranch back in April of this year.
Season 4 episode 3 of Yellowstone set this move up, when Dutton explained to Jimmy that this was an opportunity for the character, so he would return to Yellowstone when he was ready. In other news, Does Harry die in Stay Close?

How Many Heads Of Cattle Did Samuel Burk Burnett Purchase In 1870?
But in the midst of working on the fourth season of his Kevin Costner led drama, Sheridan has announced that not only is he working on multiple Yellowstone spinoffs including a prequel series, but he purchased a massive Texas ranch where one of the shows will be based — it’s known as the Four Sixes Ranch. History of Four Sixes Ranch The historic 6666 Ranch was founded by Samuel Burk Burnett back in 1870 when Burk purchased 100 heads of cattle and gave them the 6666 brand. Though we don’t know the final sale price, we know that Taylor Sheridan is the face of the group that purchased the historic ranch.
Though Sheridan, also contacted by The Texas Spur, didn’t comment specifically on the sale, he did honor the ranching industry in Texas and alluded to including the land in his popular TV series. I can’t comment on a pending transaction but I will say this: the legacy of the 6666 Ranch and Miss Marion’s vision for the ranch are vital not only to the ranch itself, but the rich heritage of ranching in Texas. In an interview with Cowboys & Indians Magazine, Sheridan discussed moving back to his home state with his wife and the importance of Texas storytelling today.
