I started Seven Deadly Sins with low expectations and high hopes. There were nearly five stars on the screen in front of me for encouragement and yet something about an anime produced by Netflix still filled me with trepidation. In fact, it’s one of the reasons we believe Netflix is the new king of TV.
An anime was released last year in Japan but this will be the first time the show has been aired outside of the country. Young princess Elizabeth fled the royal palace to find a band of outlaws known as the Seven Deadly Sins who she believes to be their last hope. Having been accused of treason, the Sins were scattered across the country, exiled for the past 10 years.
The main characters with their sweet looks are deceivingly powerful, attracting many enemies. From the first moments, the viewer is drawn into the world of the Seven Deadly Sins. Fast Action I am a sucker for a good fight and with a plot centered on a holy war; every episode contains an epic battle between our unlikely heroes and their deadly foes.
Dark and Edgy This show is deceivingly grim. The holy knights have no sense of morality. Even our heroes have a dark side.
But it doesn’t stop there, as the series progresses there is no shortage of crude jokes, butt pinching, sexual innuendos and more. The Feels Every good anime knows how to play to the audience’s emotions and the Seven Deadly Sins is no exception. It’s humanizing and gives us as a viewer a way to relate to a fictional animated character.

What Is A Mess In 7Ds?
The Seven Deadly Sins is a mess. Overall it’s a solid distraction that can be burned through on a quiet weekend. Let’s back up for a second though.
If you’re expecting something as crisp as Attack on Titan you’ll be disappointed though. 7DS takes its premise and, over the course of 24 episodes, throws every good, bad and superfluous idea it can think of in theRE too. He looks like a kid but doesn’t appear to have aged a day in the ten years since he became a fugitive.
Except of course for the giant elephant in the room. We’ll probably cover this in more detail somewhere else on Cultured Vultures, but Meliodas is a walking sex pest and it’s pretty boring from the get-go. For the first five or six episodes it’s so bad you might struggle to keep watching.
The fighting – and there’s a lot of fighting in this series, if you remember one thing – is firmly of the Dragon Ball Z variety once things get going. Punches don’t knock people to the floor, they send people crashing through walls in a mushroom cloud of dust. Thinking about it, this might get to the root of what’s so frustrating about 7DS‘s writing.
So many ideas jostle for position that some inevitably don’t fit. Each of the Seven Deadly Sins brings something to the story with their own personality and story arc. The animation is good with characters and setting always managing to look interesting.
What Is The Reason I Find The Show Bad Objectively?
Dont watch it! I’m watching this show on Netflix. Why I find it bad objectively: 1.
Next shot shows him with his clothes not affected at all. This looks even more lazy when I recalled the show itself making a deal about it in previous episodes, him ripping his clothes constantly and having to hunt for a replacement. I understand using such plot devices in a story from time to time.
King’s and Diane’s love arc is plagued by this trope. This is why I find the show bad subjectively: I understand and appreciate fanservice in an Anime show. I giggled at it in the first episode, but as I continued to binge it became a bit awkward to watch.
However I would advise you to not start watching this show, if you like quality entertainment.
What Is The Selling Point Of This Series?
The characters are the selling point of this series and i can’t bring myself to even slightly dislike any single one of ‘em. They each feel real and believable as people and have many flaws that all work towards fixing and growing from. Going onto the story, while it is a pretty generic shounen plotline, at it’s best it can be handled with emotion and complexity.
In relation to the last point, the action is greatly choreographed and very fun to watch. Second of all, i didn’t think it was as bad as some people say. Like, i’d be perfectly okay showing this to 5 year old.
If you are raising your child correctly it should be common sense to them to not do that(the groping). And the violence is the same as something you’d see on Power Rangers, but instead of sparks flying from the impact of a hit it’s blood, which i’m sure every child has seen at least once. Overall, the series is great.
But again, i’d show it it to a 5 year old if they just wanted to watch something colorful and fun. This series is amazing, you should most certainly watch it.
