Season Three Preview: The Father of Mel’s Baby

*Warning: Spoilers ahead* From Hope’s “accident” to Preacher’s kidnapping, we’ve heard our fair share of Virgin River theories. However, this brand-new prediction about the father of Mel’s baby might be the most convincing one to date. She’s pregnant, and he might not be the father.

In season three, Mel continually contemplates the idea of starting a family. Phew! Although we hoped this was the case, we were a tad skeptical only because the writers highlighted Mel’s trip to L.A. to discuss the possibility of unfreezing her eggs.

“[Mel] was in L.A. for, like, three days and had the idea while she was there. I think she’s pregnant with Jack’s baby, at least I hope so,” someone wrote. Another added, “You don’t pop in on a whim and do IVF!”

Who Is Mel’S Ex-Husband?

No, not the news that Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) is pregnant—every Virgin River fan had been all, Wait, is Mel pregnant? for half the season—but that Mel underwent IVF during her breakup with Jack (Martin Henderson), and the baby she’s expecting may be the biological child of her late ex-husband, Mark. Season three ends with that bomb being dropped: Jack, I don’t know if you’re the father, Mel says, and then the credits roll. We knew, as viewers, that Mel and her late husband Mark had frozen embryos available, and we knew that Mel thought Jack didn’t want another child (given that he’s already expecting twins and revving up for a giant custody battle with Charmaine and Todd).

And one that will no doubt hover over season four, especially since Jack is already going through a lot. That’s three children on the way, if we’re counting. He told TV Line his initial reaction was: Dude!, adding: It’s obviously such a giant bombshell…It’s nice and juicy, but it’s a big pill to swallow.

But fans had another big question… Is Alexandra Breckenridge pregnant? Of all the questions hanging over this series, this one’s the easiest to answer: Breckenridge is not pregnant.

But don’t worry: Even if things get rocky, they’ll work out in the end. Tenney told TV Insider: In the series, eventually, they are going to get married.

Jack and Mel, their love and their commitment to each other, that doesn’t change. How he feels about her does not change. Breckenridge says she thinks Mel would have waited longer (and perhaps even got some clarification on paternity) to tell Jack if he hadn’t essentially backed her into a corner by getting down on one knee.

Is Jack up for potentially watching his biological children get raised by another man and concurrently raising a child that he potentially didn’t father? When Mel talked to her sister in Episode 8, she said she was considering moving back to Los Angeles but whenever she’s in Virgin River, it does seem like she’s home. Personally, I think that Mel loves Virgin River now. Yeah, I love the character of Brie and I love Zibby Allen who plays Brie.

If there is [a Season 4], we don’t know how Jack’s going to react. And if that’s not the case, if she and Jack stay together, I’m sure she would stay on in the clinic because she loves what she does. And that’s really difficult because, with mothers versus fathers, courts tend to side with mothers, but I don’t know a whole lot about that.

I think that her life would be a lot more lonely than it is now if she stayed in Los Angeles.

Which Season Of Virgin River Ended On A Cliffhanger?

Virgin River Season 3 ended on one of the big surprises of the show so far. But the cliffhanger that ended up making fans drizzle in their mind was Mel not being sure if Jack is the father of her baby. But what could be happening next?

So far, it was unclear whether she has used those embryos or destroyed them. Later in Season 3, no preparations and scenes regarding artificial insemination were shown in the last season. So, it is undoubtedly confirmed that Mel is pregnant with Jack’s baby, but we will know about it for sure only when Season 4 of Virgin River strikes into the lanes of the streaming giant.

It was at this moment, just seconds before Jack planned to propose, that Mel revealed she was pregnant and didn’t know the paternity of the child.

According to one fan theory, there is only one logical answer Virgin River can give viewers and it would actually highlight just how frustrating the cliffhanger is in the process.
