*Warning: Spoilers ahead* From Hope’s “accident” to Preacher’s kidnapping, we’ve heard our fair share of Virgin River theories. However, this brand-new prediction about the father of Mel’s baby might be the most convincing one to date. She’s pregnant, and he might not be the father.
In season three, Mel continually contemplates the idea of starting a family. Phew! Although we hoped this was the case, we were a tad skeptical only because the writers highlighted Mel’s trip to L.A. to discuss the possibility of unfreezing her eggs.
“[Mel] was in L.A. for, like, three days and had the idea while she was there. I think she’s pregnant with Jack’s baby, at least I hope so,” someone wrote. Another added, “You don’t pop in on a whim and do IVF!”

Who Is Mel’S Ex-Husband?
No, not the news that Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) is pregnant—every Virgin River fan had been all, Wait, is Mel pregnant? for half the season—but that Mel underwent IVF during her breakup with Jack (Martin Henderson), and the baby she’s expecting may be the biological child of her late ex-husband, Mark. Season three ends with that bomb being dropped: Jack, I don’t know if you’re the father, Mel says, and then the credits roll. We knew, as viewers, that Mel and her late husband Mark had frozen embryos available, and we knew that Mel thought Jack didn’t want another child (given that he’s already expecting twins and revving up for a giant custody battle with Charmaine and Todd).
And one that will no doubt hover over season four, especially since Jack is already going through a lot. That’s three children on the way, if we’re counting. He told TV Line his initial reaction was: Dude!, adding: It’s obviously such a giant bombshell…It’s nice and juicy, but it’s a big pill to swallow.
But fans had another big question… Is Alexandra Breckenridge pregnant? Of all the questions hanging over this series, this one’s the easiest to answer: Breckenridge is not pregnant.
But don’t worry: Even if things get rocky, they’ll work out in the end. Tenney told TV Insider: In the series, eventually, they are going to get married.
Which Season Of Virgin River Did Mel Attempt To Get Pregnant Via Ivf?
Virgin River Close this dialog window Streaming Options Warning: This article contains spoilers about season 3 of Virgin River. Because just a few weeks prior, while she and Jack were split, Mel used some of her remaining embryos from late husband Mark (Daniel Gillies) to attempt to get pregnant via IVF. Breckenridge admits she was surprised the first time she read Mel’s confession to Jack about wanting a baby.
She wants that intimacy, she wants that honesty, and she is willing to dive in. VIRGIN RIVER Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack (Martin Henderson) share a loving moment on ‘Virgin River’ | Credit: NETFLIX Still, she also concedes that the decision to go through with the attempt at IVF was one Mel made under perhaps not the best of circumstances. She’s going through this emotional roller-coaster, and she makes this decision out of that place.
Jack and Mel, their love and their commitment to each other, that doesn’t change. How he feels about her does not change. Breckenridge says she thinks Mel would have waited longer (and perhaps even got some clarification on paternity) to tell Jack if he hadn’t essentially backed her into a corner by getting down on one knee.
But what will this big reveal mean for Mel and Jack going forward if the show gets renewed for season 4? Is Jack up for potentially watching his biological children get raised by another man and concurrently raising a child that he potentially didn’t father? If it turns out that Mark is the father, how is Jack going to react?
Being a person that got the gender of my children at like nine weeks pregnant because I cannot not know things, I absolutely understand needing to know right now, she quips. But Tenney teases that the paternity question would be the basis of a major arc in a potential season 4. And Virgin River has as many complications as it does friendly neighbors.
Who Plays Jack Sheridan In Virgin River?

More info Don’t miss the bestand biggest new releases for 2022 Virgin River is the romantic drama that has seen Jack Sheridan (played by Martin Henderson) and Mel Monroe’s (Alexandra Breckenridge) relationship gradually blossom.
But it could be Mel’s turn to be at the heart of another storyline as fans predict there is trouble for her on the horizon. Will Mel Monroe face another pregnancy trauma as fans spot clue? As Mel disclosed in season two of Virgin River, she and her ex-husband Mark had been trying to have a baby for quite some time.
Who Played Mel In Virgin River Season 3?
The good news: Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack (Martin Henderson) are back together after breaking up — she wanted kids, he wasn’t so sure — by the end of Virgin River Season 3. Alexandra Breckenridge: I can tell you that I hope that it’s Jack’s baby, but I don’t know. Does any part of Mel want the baby to be Mark’s since it would be a way for him to live on?
I think that after she found out she was pregnant, it brought on a lot of complicated feelings for her — obviously, you can see it on her face — so maybe a tiny part. Of course, she loves Mark, but they’re not in a relationship anymore. I don’t know if that’s the right thing to say about somebody that’s passed away.
Obviously, she dropped that bomb at the end when he asks her to marry him, which is the saddest thing ever. She’s just going through a lot of emotional turmoil about it and if there’s a Season 4, we’ll obviously explore that a lot. The proposal is a huge moment for Jack and the fact that Hope is clinging to her life in the hospital makes it kind of a strange time to propose.
When Mel talked to her sister in Episode 8, she said she was considering moving back to Los Angeles but whenever she’s in Virgin River, it does seem like she’s home. Personally, I think that Mel loves Virgin River now. Yeah, I love the character of Brie and I love Zibby Allen who plays Brie.
If there is [a Season 4], we don’t know how Jack’s going to react. And if that’s not the case, if she and Jack stay together, I’m sure she would stay on in the clinic because she loves what she does. And that’s really difficult because, with mothers versus fathers, courts tend to side with mothers, but I don’t know a whole lot about that.
I think that her life would be a lot more lonely than it is now if she stayed in Los Angeles.
Which Season Of Virgin River Ended On A Cliffhanger?
Virgin River Season 3 ended on one of the big surprises of the show so far. But the cliffhanger that ended up making fans drizzle in their mind was Mel not being sure if Jack is the father of her baby. But what could be happening next?
So far, it was unclear whether she has used those embryos or destroyed them. Later in Season 3, no preparations and scenes regarding artificial insemination were shown in the last season. So, it is undoubtedly confirmed that Mel is pregnant with Jack’s baby, but we will know about it for sure only when Season 4 of Virgin River strikes into the lanes of the streaming giant.
The show has been popular among the viewers for quite some time, though the streaming giant Netflix does not share its viewing statistics publically. According to What’s on Netflix, the fourth season began its production in July in the same month of release of its third season. So far, so good.
The second and third seasons of the show premiered in a short time gap of seven months, but that is something you must not expect between the third and fourth season as a fan of the show. The book series constitutes 25 books, so as fans and potential viewers of the show, we don’t have to feel tensed about the storyline and material of the show.
What Was The Biggest Cliffhanger In Season 3?
The Virgin River Fan Theory About Mel’s Baby That Would Change Everything Of all the cliffhangers served up in the Virgin River Season 3 finale, the biggest one of them all involved Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack (Martin Henderson). Season 3 saw their relationship endure a lot of growing pains, which ultimately led to both parties questioning if they were truly meant to be together. While the couple started strong at the beginning of the season, cracks began to form as Jack tried to deal with the pressures of being involved in Charmaine’s pregnancy as the father of her kids.
That vision included having a baby — something that overwhelmed Jack and led to him hastily ending their relationship. The break-up was a devastating blow to Mel, who felt punished for being vulnerable with the man she loved, and immediately retreated to Los Angeles to work through the split with her sister. While in Los Angeles, Mel explored the possibility of having a baby on her own.
Virgin River viewers didn’t get a chance to see how that appointment went, but Mel was definitely different upon returning to Virgin River. After an uneasy reunion with Jack, the pair took a sunset hike together and began to tentatively discuss their future. It was at this moment, just seconds before Jack planned to propose, that Mel revealed she was pregnant and didn’t know the paternity of the child.
According to one fan theory, there is only one logical answer Virgin River can give viewers and it would actually highlight just how frustrating the cliffhanger is in the process.
What Is The Name Of The Virgin River Showrunner?
“And I don’t know if you’re the father.” Boom. No survivors.
It’s nice and juicy, but it’s a big pill to swallow. It’s a huge thing for a person to do, and it shows just how much she wants to become a mother. When you’re under emotional duress, you act in ways you wouldn’t normally.”
“It ties itself together, and it makes more sense to me at the end,” she says. “While I was going through it, I was like, ‘What is Mel doing? This is a crazy thing to do!’
That was what I learned.” As for the paternity of Mel’s cliffhanger baby, Virgin River showrunner Sue Tenney tells TVLine that we’ll know by the end of Season 4, should Netflix bless us with a renewal. OK, let’s talk: Are you invested in this unexpected paternity twist?
