Fact Check! Fuck off you losers.#CancelNetflixATLALiveAction — Crownjo (@Crownjo) August 14, 2020 Not surprisingly, the news of DiMartino and Konietzko dropping out has sparked all kinds of speculation and inside sources claiming that one big reason could be Netflix refusing to honor the pledge to cast a diverse set of actors for the series. Now Netflix Whitewashing rumors are running rampant – along with rumors of attempted sexualization of these child characters.

How Many Seasons Has Avatar Had?
With three seasons to its name, the franchise has spun off comics, manga, sequel TV series, and one ill-fated live-action movie to boot. However, as it turns out, there was more to Avatar that fans never got to see. After all, a fourth season was being planned, but it turns out the venture was canceled to make way for the series’ now-infamous live-action adaptation.
Longer and far more complicated than Zuko’s. She had not bottomed in the end of season 3, she had further to go. Despite it all, her brother Zuko would be there for her.
It made a comeback some years later with The Legend of Korra, a sequel which followed the journey of the Avatar who came after Aang. Still, some fans can’t help but wonder what this fourth season would have looked like, especially given how badly the series’ live-action movie was received. So, are you excited for the live-action take?

How Long Did It Take Nickelodeon To Figure Out The Avatar Universe?
Avatar Netflix Well it took them about seven years to figure it out, but Nickelodeon seems to have finally realized what they had with the Avatar universe, and are going all-in on it. But that will come at the cost of the show’s current streaming home, Netflix. Speaking to EW, Nickelodeon President and CEO Brian Robbins confirmed that both Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra would be leaving Netflix down the line, with the original Avatar in particular being a massively well-performing series on the streaming service.
We’re very upfront about it. There’s no public date on when it’s going away, but where it’s headed is clear, Paramount Plus, what CBS All Access turned into, with ViacomCBS being the parent company of Nickelodeon. Korra Netflix Nickelodeon has formed “Avatar Studios” with the original creators of the series and are going hard on expanding the universe with new animated shows and features past Aang and Korra.
This gets extra confusing when you remember that Netflix is still developing a live action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender, meant to wipe the taste of M. Night Shyamalan’s much-derided movie version out of everyone’s mouth. I would not be surprised if that fell apart at some point in the future, but it hasn’t yet. Paramount Plus continues to struggle to find its identity in the increasingly crowded streaming landscape, but it did recently have a hit with the iCarly reboot, which was better than anyone expected it to be.

Who Are The Creators Of Avatar: The Last Airbender?
Avatar: The Last Airbender creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko are no longer working on the live-action series adaptation set for Netflix. The creators announced their departure on Wednesday, sparking concern among fans. DiMartino’s lengthy blog post only confirmed those concerns, as the writer and executive producer noted that “whatever version ends up on-screen, it will not be what Bryan and I had envisioned or intended to make.”
The news may have come as a shock to Avatar fans, considering that when Netflix announced the project in 2018, both DiMartino and Konietzko’s involvement was heavily promoted. “When Bryan and I signed on to the project in 2018, we were hired as executive producers and showrunners,” DiMartino wrote. And we expressed how excited we were for the opportunity to be at the helm.
Adaptations often move forward with different creative teams, but DiMartino’s and Konietzko’s statements will feel familiar to Percy Jackson fans. “It was the hardest professional decision I’ve ever had to make, and certainly not one that I took lightly, but it was necessary for my happiness and creative integrity,” DiMartino wrote. “We have complete respect and admiration for Michael and Bryan and the story that they created in the Avatar animated series,” a Netflix spokesperson told The Verge.
Konietzko added to DiMartino’s frustrations and wrote on Instagram that it wasn’t about them having full control over the series. They were perfectly fine with collaborating “as long as we felt those ideas were in line with the spirit and integrity of Avatar,” he wrote. As things progressed, both Konietzko and DiMartino “came to the belief that we would not be able to meaningfully guide the direction of the series.”
Fans do have a right to be concerned: the last time a live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender was attempted without DiMartino and Konietzko, it didn’t exactly go well. Sorry, M. Night Shyamalan.
What Is The Name Of The Nickelodeon Cartoon That Netflix Adapted Into A Live-Action Series?
In a rare public fallout for Netflix, the creators of the platform’s highly anticipated, live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender, the acclaimed Nickelodeon cartoon, have walked away from the project. But in separate posts published to their respective blogs and Instagrams, Avatar franchise creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko said they were no longer involved with the previously announced Netflix remake, due to prolonged creative differences. “When Netflix brought me on board to run this series alongside Mike two years ago,” Konietzko wrote in his Instagram post, “they made a very public promise to support our vision.
Despite its brief run, which ended more than a decade ago, Avatar fans remain loyal — and that Netflix had gotten the series’ creators involved seemed to give them confidence in the project. The recent release of Airbender on the platform — making it more accessible to viewers than it has been in years — saw the show trending in the Netflix Top 10 list for weeks. That timing makes the announcement of DiMartino and Konietzko’s departure from the live-action series all the more curious — despite Netflix offering a home for the franchise, Airbender’s future with the streaming platform is now under new scrutiny.
The fate of the film might have decisively ended any attempts to turn the animated Airbender into a live-action anything. But when Netflix announced the live-action series adaptation in 2018, many fans were curious and excited to see what a faithful adaptation of the show could accomplish — especially with the creators’ involvement, unlike the hands-off approach DiMartino and Konietzko took with Shyamalan’s film. A reimagined, live-action “Avatar: The Last Airbender” series is coming to Netflix!
With Airbender back in the spotlight, the timing was right for a reappraisal of Korra — but now Korra’s Netflix debut may be overshadowed by its creators’ own exit from the live-action series. Still, DiMartino and Konietzko stressed that this isn’t the end of the franchise or their involvement in it. And as strange as it is for Netflix to be parting ways with such high-profile creators, it’s not like Netflix doesn’t have a proven track record when it comes to reimagining popular franchises from other media — just look at its wildly popular live-action adaptation of The Witcher, or the recent reboot of The Babysitter’s Club.
It might turn out to be a show many of you end up enjoying,” DiMartino wrote. Today, we’re humbled to say that nearly 20,000 people have chipped in. The reason is both lovely and surprising: Readers told us that they contribute both because they value explanation and because they value that other people can access it, too.
What Is The Voice Cast Of The Last Airbender Doubtful To Be Better Than?
The voice cast of The Last Airbender is doubtful Netflix’s live-action series will be better than the animated original. Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko’s “Avatar: The Last Airbender” is widely regarded as one of the greatest animated series of all time, so it’s not surprising many fans are approaching Netflix’s live-action series with caution. The streaming giant confirmed in September 2018 it was developing a live-action “Avatar” series with original creators DiMartino and Konietzko, but the two showrunners exited the project in August 2020 over creative differences, further fueling fan skepticism of the series.
I don’t know how you do that! You’re not adding onto it or expanding the universe. “It’s not good, I’m sorry,” Romano said.
And we expressed how excited we were for the opportunity to be at the helm. Unfortunately, things did not go as we had hoped.” The open letter continued, “Look, things happen.
Unforeseen events arise. And when those things have happened at other points during my career, I try to be like an Air Nomad and adapt. Netflix has not announced release plans for the live-action series.
How Many Books Long Is Avatar: The Last Airbender?
Avatar: The Last Airbender is undergoing a mini-revival. The original Nickelodeon series and the Legend of Korra spin-off have been among Netflix’s most-watched series since their arrival on the streaming service in the past few months. That added attention has led creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino to put to bed any speculation that a season 4 was ever in the works, though teased that there’s always space for “future stories” in the universe.
While some threads are picked up much later in the timeline in Legend of Korra, Konietzko and DiMartino told Polygon that season 4/Book 4 was never on their minds at the time. “There was never going to be a season 4, not from us and not from Nickelodeon,” Konietzko said. “Mike and I planned [The Last Airbender] to be a three-season arc as far back as our initial pitch in 2002, and in 2008 we finished the story we set out to tell.”
But DiMartino offers hope for those who want new stories in The Last Airbender’s world, especially given the popularity of the franchise’s comics and books. “There are many seeds we planted through both series and in the graphic novels that could be expanded on and explored,” he hinted. “The Avatar universe is a big place and has a long history so there’s a lot of potential for new stories.”
The closest we’ll get to seeing something new from Aang and the gang is this unaired pilot. For now, the direction of the airbenders lay in Netflix’s hands, but who knows what the future might hold?
