The original The Twilight Zone series that ran back in the late 1950s is set to expire from Netflix in the United States in July 2021. Streaming on Netflix for the past 6 years, The Twilight Zone was created by Rod Serling and aired between 1959 and 1964 on CBS. The anthology series science fiction horror series was truly groundbreaking for the time and presented to this day in black and white.
Netflix hasn’t been the host to every season, though. Only seasons 1 to 3 and season 5 are available on Netflix and we’ve never had season 4 streaming for whatever reason. All 138 episodes that are available on Netflix (but only in the US – it’s never made its way onto Netflix internationally) will be departing on July 1st, 2021.
The series was already streaming Paramount+ (relabeled from CBS All Access in early 2021) but after its removal from Netflix, we’re expecting it to then remain exclusive to that platform just like the Jordan Peele curated reboot of The Twilight Zone released in 2019. It is also currently available on Hulu and it’s unclear right now whether they’ll be losing the show too. It’s not the only ViacomCBS show set to leave on July 1st either.
Will you miss The Twilight Zone when it’s removed from Netflix US on July 1st? Let us know in the comments.

Where Did Jordan Peele Arrive For The Cbs All Access New Series The Twilight Zone Premiere?
HOLLYWOOD, CA – MARCH 26: Jordan Peele arrives for the CBS All Access New Series The Twilight Zone Premiere held at the Harmony Gold Preview House and Theater on March 26, 2019 in Hollywood, California. (Photo by Albert L. Ortega/Getty Images) The Twilight Zone is one of the most legendary sci-fi TV shows to ever exist. Though there were only five seasons of the Rod Serling show, it left an impression on everyone who watched.
With a 95% audience score and an 82% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s clear that the series left many minds perplexed while it sowed strange, supernatural hypotheticals that have stayed with us to this very day. The Twilight Zone went on to be remade twice, most recently by Get Out filmmaker Jordan Peele (who also took over Serling’s role as host), but the charm of the original show simply couldn’t be replicated. Unfortunately, its enduring popularity wasn’t enough to keep the show on Netflix.
Be sure to watch seasons 1 through 3 as well as season 5 on Netflix before the end of next month (season 4 is not available on the streamer). However, if binge-watching four seasons in 30-plus days isn’t your speed, there are other options available; find out below where you can stream The Twilight Zone. What Two Of The Best Tv Shows Of All-Time Are Leaving Netflix As Of Midnight Tonight?
✖ Tragically, the day has come. As we previously reported, two of the best TV shows of all-time are leaving Netflix as of midnight tonight. At that point the original run of The Twilight Zone and the first two seasons of Twin Peaks will no longer be streaming on the platform and anyone eager to watch them online will have to look elsewhere.
Both of these shows departing Netflix is a major loss for the service though, not because they’ve dominated the viewership charts really but because they’ve been streaming on Netflix for years. As we noted a few weeks ago, both the original Twin Peaks and The Twilight Zone come from the vaults of ViacomCBS’ various subsidiaries so it’s possible they’ll be exclusive to Paramount+ in the near future since they’re streaming there already. Twin Peaks is a special case because, due to lack of a better term, there’s not one specific place where the entire franchise can seen.
The first two seasons (which originally aired on CBS) are available now on Hulu, Paramount+, and Showtime, while Twin Peaks: The Return (season three) can only be seen on Showtime. The follow-up/prequel feature film, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, is streaming on HBO Max and The Criterion Channel only. It’s possible that at a certain point all the TV episodes could live on the same platform, but Lynch’s feature film was produced by New Line Cinema, meaning it would be difficult for it all to be in one place.
Previously CBS All Access, Paramount+ is also the only place to find Jordan Peele’s modern revival of The Twilight Zone for streaming. These two shows aren’t the only things leaving Netflix today as the streamer will also lose access to a series of movies including all three Back to the Future films, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Crazy, Stupid, Love, Enter the Dragon, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and Training Day.
Why Does Netflix Not Stream Season 4 Of The Twilight Zone?
It’s a question I hear fairly often from Twilight Zone fans: Why doesn’t Netflix stream Season 4 of The Twilight Zone? I’ve seen a lot of guesses on Facebook and head-scratching on Twitter, so let’s just cut to the real reason. It’s simply that they don’t want to pay for what is arguably TZ’s least-popular season.
For Season 5, TZ reverted to the half-hour format that had served it so well during its first three seasons. So that’s what Netflix has decided to pay for. In the case of The Twilight Zone, the owner is CBS.
So you can see why streamers like Netflix want to keep costs down. Still, popular “non-original” shows like The Office can help a streamer get and keep subscribers. So if you’re a streamer who wants to hold onto a show like The Twilight Zone, and yet you hope to save money to funnel to your award-winning and prestige-attracting originals, what’s your best option?
Julie Newmar in “Of Late I Think of Cliffordville” As I’ve noted in a previous post, we’re lucky to have Twilight Zone so widely available. Many vintage shows — and I don’t mean obscure stuff, but shows that were hugely popular back in their day and later in seemingly endless reruns — are gone from streamers like Netflix. In some cases, that’s the owner’s doing (as with The Office), but in others, it’s because the streamer is trying to cut costs.
I hope it’s a good long time, however. But even if you don’t watch TZ on Netflix, it’s good for the show that it’s there, I can assure you. It’s a great way for the series to gain new fans, for one thing.
Who Owns Twilight Zone?
But I was hoping that the legendary TV show that made time travel look possible would be streaming on Netflix for a lot longer. Alas, The Twilight Zone is set to leave the streaming giant on June 30. The fact is, this is most likely the decision of CBS, which owns Twilight Zone.
But I want TZ to be as available as possible. As I’ve said before, convenience is king. (“I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone!”)
There is a ton of content out there, with more added every day. Will TZ continue to be widely known and loved? To a large extent, that’s up to us.
