Big-budget French Netflix Original series La Révolution won’t be continuing according to the creator of the show as it looks like a planned season 2 is no longer moving forward. Created by Aurélien Molas, the series takes you back to 1787 and provides a reimagined take on the well-known French Revolution where investigators finds a disease that causes the aristocracy to murder commoners. The full first season arrived on Netflix in October 2020.
Decider gave the series a “stream it” rating saying: “It plays fast and loose with history and political ideals, sure, but more than anything, it’s a fantasy – and a spooky one at that. What more could you want?” So, unfortunately, despite positive reviews, season 2 of La Révolution isn’t happening.
He was there to specifically talk about the new French series Lupin (which by most accounts is doing very well). When asked about La Révolution and asked about how well it performed it was confirmed there would be no season 2 saying (translated and corrected where necessary from Google translate): “The Revolution has indeed attracted many members beyond France. For us, this is proof that France, its history and its heritage, can interest an international audience.
There’s a bit to unpack from this. While Couvreur says that the series performed well outside of France it didn’t do enough to keep people sticking right through to the end if we’re understanding this translation correctly. Are you disappointed that La Révolution will not be returning for season 2?
What Is The Name Of The French Supernatural Drama Series Created By Aurélien Molas For Netflix?
The big-budgeted French-language supernatural drama series created by Aurélien Molas for Netflix is full of action and intrigue, making it a must-watch affair from start to finish. The incredibly entertaining ordeal takes place in a reimagined history in the year 1787 and the decadence of the Ancien Regime that tells an alternative tale of the event that lead to the French Revolution. La Revolution’s narrative follows a man that would later become involved with the invention of the guillotine named Joseph Ignace Guillotin, who discovers a disease that causes the aristocracy to murder commoners of the country.
Allocine from France interviewed Damien Couvreur, who has been instrumental in igniting Netflix’s efforts in France, and Couvreur broke the unfortunate news that the show has been canceled and will not be making any more episodes moving forward: “The Revolution has indeed attracted many members beyond France. For us, this is proof that France, its history and its heritage, can interest an international audience. This is unfortunate, but it’s always safe never to say never in this industry, and there is always a chance a show could come back from the dead at some point in the future.
Amir El Kacem, Marilou Aussilloux, Coline Béal, Doudou Masta, Lionel Erdogan, and Julien Frison will hopefully be back in the mix should the French period drama get resurrected. La Revolution season 2 synopsis There is no synopsis for La Revolution season 2, and unless the creators and the streaming powerhouse change their mind about the cancellation, it is safe to assume that no plot detail will arrive anytime soon. “It plays fast and loose with history and political ideals, sure, but more than anything, it’s a fantasy – and a spooky one at that.
What more could you want?” La Revolution season 2 trailer No trailer has been released for La Revolution season 2, and there won’t be any sort of teaser now that the show is canceled. We will be sure to keep everyone on top of what goes on with La Revolution season 2, and if things change as far as the French original’s series future goes, we won’t hesitate to make the news known to all.
What French Series Won’T Be Returning For A Second Season On Netflix?
(Photo: Netflix) Sad news for those that like their period drama mixed with some horror on the side: It looks like Netflix’s French series La Revolution won’t be returning for a second season. Set during the latter years of the 18th century, the series reimagines the history of the French Revolution. But instead of an opulent royal court driving a starving populace to rise up, the story centers on the spread of a disease known as Blue Blood, an affliction that not only turns their blood a different color but drives the aristocracy to murder commoners.
Unfortunately, viewers won’t get to see how Joseph-Ignace Guillotin puts his famous murder machine to use against the undead – La Revolution won’t be returning for a second season. (You can see the fruits of his work in French heist drama Lupin, which is now projected to hit more streams in its first four weeks on the service than shows like The Queen’s Gambit.) For us, this is proof that France, its history and its heritage, can interest an international audience.
From Courvreur’s comments, it sounds as though, while viewers may have sampled the series initially, they didn’t necessarily complete it, which is of course a bad sign for any impending second season. This is a real shame because it would have been really interesting to see where a La Revolution Season 2 went. It’s a show about pseudo-zombie rich people who may or may not eat the lower classes, this is not the place to be looking for in-depth historical truths.
Just…maybe adjust your expectations accordingly. Did anyone else watch La Revolution? Let’s discuss in the comments.
