What are skin blemishes and how to prevent their onset: a much hated imperfection that occurs not only with advancing age and that can be avoided with some remedies.
Skin spots
Senile melasma, chloasma and lentigo are the most common types of skin blemishes.
They develop in particular on the face, especially on the area of the chin, upper lip and cheeks. Skin blemishes are a blemish very hated by women, also because they are often difficult to cover with foundation or other cosmetics. In addition to the disadvantages on an aesthetic level, many dermatologists recommend keeping them under control even if they usually do not represent a health problem. They they are formed by an accumulation of melanin due to various causes: not only over exposure to the sun but also hormonal factors and the use of photosensitizing cosmetics and drugs (such as birth control pills or antibiotics).
It also affects the genetic predisposition of the dark phototype.
The melasma it is the most difficult type of skin blemish to treat because if at first it is a reversible phenomenon if treated immediately, over time it becomes a permanent blemish that continues to become darker and more annoying. It mainly derives from overexposure to sunlight. The chloasma it is very similar to melasma but depends on hormonal factors, particularly pregnancy and the use of the birth control pill.
The senile lentigo instead they are isolated skin spots that appear especially after a certain age and are due to the uneven production of melanin. They appear in the areas of the skin most exposed to the sun, including hands, décolleté and neck. In fact, they are caused by skin aging due to exposure to ultraviolet rays.
How to prevent skin blemishes
Certainly the most useful and effective remedy to prevent the onset of skin blemishes is the use of sun creams with a high SPF. They are to be used not only in summer or on the beach but throughout the year. They can be applied in the morning before leaving the house or you can buy creams that also contain sunscreen to save time. In fact, skin spots are formed not only by direct sun exposure (for example when we get a tan on the sunbed on the beach) but also throughout the life span due to UVA rays. Don’t forget to apply a moisturizer to rebalance the skin’s pH.
Then avoid carrying out photosensitizing treatments such as waxing just before exposing yourself to direct sun is a further precaution to avoid the onset of skin spots. Even some cosmetics based on exfoliating acids and retinol should not be used before sun exposure.
To cure them in addition there are various more or less effective methods: from the laser, which manages to eliminate them almost completely with various sessions, to exfoliating peeling treatments that stimulate skin renewal. There are also lightening and depigmenting lotions and creams: in this case their benefits will only be seen in the long term and after many applications.
