Because Spectrum Originals is a relatively obscure platform (compared to, say, Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, or HBO Max), it seems possible that the show didn’t draw enough eyeballs to justify the cost of its A-list cast and IP, even though it quickly moved to Fox for a secondary run. While that certainly could explain Spectrum’s unwillingness to move forward with Season 3, it certainly doesn’t explain why Netflix wouldn’t step in with a green light, waving its golden checkbook. At one point, L.A.’s Finest became one of the Top Ten most-watched shows on Netflix domestically, according to Newsweek, so the audience was obviously there.
Other than the hard viewing data, this is all just speculation, of course, but the timing of the cancelation does seem to square with the political explanation. That fact makes it less likely that Netflix will ride to the 11th-hour rescue, however, which is certainly unfortunate for fans. Sorry, folks, but L.A.’s Finest does not appear to be the next Cobra Kai.
Who Reprises Her Role As Drug Enforcement Agent Sydney Burnett?
The Bad Boys spinoff starring Bad Boys 2 actress Gabrielle Union and Fantastic Four’s Jessica Alba as a dynamic crime-fighting duo is a must-watch endeavor for anyone that enjoys action comedy crime shows. In this exceptional series, Union reprises her role as Drug Enforcement Agent Sydney Burnett, who was the sister of Martin Lawrence’s character Marcus and also had a romantic fling with Will Smith’s Mike Lowery. Syd is out of the DEA this time around and now working with Robbery Homicide Division, where she is teamed up with Alba’s Detective Nancy Mckenna, a former career criminal, and a former Navy E.O.D. Technician.
Is there going to be a season 3 of LA’s Finest? Deadline reported in October 2020 that Spectrum had canceled the series. There is still a chance that Netflix would save the series, but according to What’s on Netflix, that seems unlikely at this point.
If things were to change and LA’s Finest season 3 was to occur, it’s safe to assume there would be 13 episodes or a final episode count somewhere around there. Both seasons consisted of that amount, and it’s wise to presume they would keep the same formula or something close to it going forward. LA’s Finest season 3 release date No release date has been announced for LA’s Finest season 3, and it may never come.
While this would be ideal, it does not seem unlikely as both leading actresses have other commitments at this time.
Who Played Syd In L.A.’S Finest Season 2?
If you’ve plowed your way through L.A.’s Finest season 2 on Netflix and looking for season 3, we’ve got disappointing news. There will not be a third season of L.A.’s Finest and unless a miracle happens, it’s unlikely Netflix would be able to revive it for a season 3 either. Quick catch-up – L.A.’s Finest is a spinoff to the Sony Bad Boys universe where we follow Syd (played by Gabrielle Union) and Nancy McKenna (played by Jessica Alba) going up against the drug-infested streets of Los Angeles.
So to cover why we won’t be getting season 3, let’s quickly recap as to how the show released. Both seasons first released on Spectrum (who have mostly moved away from Original programming in recent years). Ultimately, between Spectrum Originals gaining no traction and the problems surrounding the show’s topic, the show was canceled back in October 2020.
The answer is they could but it’s not quite as simple as that nor very likely. The main reason Netflix is getting shows like L.A.s Finest is that Sony is one of the few distributors who continue to license shows but we digress. Reviving a show not only requires a lot of capital to get it going but a lot of stars to align and with a cast as big as L.A.’s Finest, getting Gabrielle Union (who is working on numerous projects including Cheaper by the Dozen for Disney+) and Jessica Alba (who is currently working on Trigger Warning for Netflix) back together while out of contract may be hard to do.
