A standout from Italy subverts the tropes of horror while proffering a sturdy example of the same, and a Korean exorcism tale will more than suffice for devotees of the genre.

Also Showing Fear Street Part 1: 1994 For starters, Leigh Janiak gets points for ambition: She directed and co-wrote all three parts of this centuries-spanning trilogy based on R.L. Stine’s more grown-up alternative to his hit Goosebumps paperbacks; the film adaptations unloaded onto Netflix over consecutive weeks. In the first, the unrestful specter of a witch hanged ages ago terrorizes the teens of Shadyside during the heyday of plaid flannels tied around the waist, and that’s about as deep as the film’s connection to its era runs. Janiak fixates on surface-level nostalgia objects (an attitude reflected in the fatal overdose of soundtracking, culminating in one dizzying sequence that burns through three musical cues in 45 seconds flat) without any spiritual connection to the Zeitgeist, extensive aping of Scream aside.

Being the final film shot despite coming second sequentially, the direction feels more confident and relaxed than before, relying less on a winking deluge of deployed songs and more on steadily paced cat-and-mouse games. Friday the 13th is the primary reference point, though the plot doesn’t lean on that blueprint so hard, mostly taking the brisk clip at which characters get fleshed out and then dispatched. On the gore front, the kills make up what they lack in inventiveness with emphasis, the camerawork giving us nice clear views of the assorted lacerations.

The accents are all over the place, and though Janiak claims The New World as her main influence here (the cojones! ), The Witch could make a convincing case in court on swag-jacking charges, but that’s almost beside the point. Major Grom: Plague Doctor The title makes it sound like Major Grom is the Plague Doctor, but in this politically muddled Russian spin on the superhero picture, they’re sworn nemeses.

That has not been enough, however, to get the show another season, with the current fourth season set to be Sam and the rest of the autism comedy/drama’s cast’s last set of adventures. Lupin One of 2021’s biggest hits, Lupin second part came out in June but is still picking up viewers around the world. The Cook of Castamar Think period drama and you probably think a British acting dame in a cap and bonnet.

The Good Doctor After airing on ABC over 2020 and 2021, viewers around the world have finally been able to get the latest episodes of this surgery drama onto their Netflix slab. It has been a dramatic year at the hospital, with Shaun (Freddie Highmore) learning about love while the rest of the hospital learns to deal with a global pandemic. With Season 4, they even survived the kiss of death for many shows as they replaced much of the cast with new faces.

Viewers may have been complaning about Dev’s (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) behaviour in Season 2 across social media, but it has not stopped millions around the world from binging the show. Sex/Life July’s most-watched Netflix show was a June release.

The female-fronted action-thriller Gunpowder Milkshake and all three parts of the R.L. Stine-inspired Fear Street trilogy are among some of the most anticipated titles hitting Netflix this July. Other July Netflix originals include the complete Fear Street trilogy, which follows groups of teens in 1994 and 1978 as they battle with a deadly town curse dating back to 1666. The series of slasher films is based on R.L. Stine’s best-selling horror books. Other films coming to Netflix in time for the summer blockbuster season are Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Charlie’s Angels and the original Mortal Kombat.

The second season of Mindy Kaling’s teen rom-com and coming-of-age romp Never Have I Ever will see teen Devi (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) navigating a complicated love life and new school year. The streamer will add a number of notable anime and animated originals to its library in the next month. Among them are WildBrain’s Johnny Test revival, which will serve as the series’ seventh season, as well as the highly anticipated Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness anime and Kevin Smith’s updated take on He-Man, Masters of the Universe: Revelation.

Not only has the world’s most dominant streamer unleashed dozens of great new movies already this month, but there are still plenty of exciting new options heading on our way for the rest of July. And at the end of this story, you can find a full list of every new movie available on Netflix this month. But in my opinion, you simply cannot top the magic of the original film series.

Love Actually is currently available to stream on Netflix. The Underworld series Without a doubt, Kate Beckinsale was (and still is, according to the trailer for Jolt) one of the most exciting action stars in Hollywood. Now all of her movies are part of Netflix.

Anderson’s breakout film about the porn industry in the late 1970s and early 1980s is one of the most stylish and entertaining films of the 1990s. Boogie Nights is currently available to stream on Netflix. Gunpowder Milkshake will be available to stream on Netflix on July 14.

The Twilight series I don’t know…I just can’t help it. I have to include the Twilight movies on this list. The Twilight saga will be available to stream on Netflix on July 16.

Django Unchained It seems like Netflix adds a new Quentin Tarantino movie to its lineup every month—and in July, they’re grabbing one of the director’s best. Django Unchained will be available to stream on Netflix on July 24. Resort to Love is currently available to stream on Netflix on July 29.

Movies you should check out this month include the Harrison Ford thriller Air Force One, the fun female-led Charlie’s Angels and the Mark Wahlberg 70s porn biopic Boogie Nights. The classic Mortal Kombat movie and all three Karate Kid films also land on Netflix this month.

Fear Street Part 1: 1994 is already out (read my review here) and is followed by Fear Street Part 2: 1978 and Fear Street Part 3: 1666 which come out on July 9th and July 16th respectively. Trollhunters: Rise Of The Titans brings the heroes from Trollhunters, 3Below and Wizards together in an epic fantasy series that debuts the 21st. And fans of the Masters Of The Universe cartoons from the 1980s can start getting excited for the new series, Masters of the Universe: Revelation, which lands on July 23rd.
