Fox The series premiere of sorority slasher “Scream Queens” introduced us to the bloody Kappa Kappa Tau universe, and instantly won us over with its devilish dark humor. But it also left us with a lot of questions: Who turned on the deep fryer? Would Ariana Grande really live-tweet her own murder?
Giphy Thankfully, we’ve now learned that there may be a couple different reasons, one of which is entirely functional. “There is a very specific reason why she wears them, and you find out in either episode six or seven,” Falchuk said. “We find out why she wears the earmuffs, but it’s not just fashion.
The funny thing with that is that it didn’t start as a necessity. It started as fun, and then once we had them and it looked great, it was like, ‘Oh, we’ve got to give a good reason for it.’ So we put that in there.”
3’s earmuffs are actually an homage to Princess Leia’s double-bun hairstyle, popularized by Fisher in “Star Wars.” Giphy Whether or not that was an intentional decision by the “Scream Queens” stylists, it’s still an amazing reminder of Lourd’s iconic mom. Still don’t know the difference?
Who Accuses Chanel #1 Of Having Teeth In Her Vagina?
After a rather awkward moment where Chanel #1 accuses #5 of having teeth in her vagina (seriously, $10 to whoever can explain the significance of this scene), Grace lays into Sam about #3’s deepest darkest secret. Fearing she will be outed as having a big lessssssssbian crush on Sam, #3 blurts it out because she figures it’s better that the news comes from her. Besides, being outed by someone else is, like, so 1990s Hollywood.
But #3 is pissed. As payback for telling the group about her Helter Skelter-loving freak show of a father, #3 dares Sam to go take a nap in the bathtub in the Kappa basement. Wanting to prove that her tattoos aren’t just for show and that she is, in fact, like, totally tough and stuff, Sam wanders on down to the basement by herself, goes into the secret locked room, and discovers the dried blood on the bottom of the bathtub.
Before suffocating her (with very little resistance, I might add), the masked killer reveals his (or her) face and Sam proclaims that she knew who it was all along. Then Sam dies and every viewer at home cried just a little bit because in this makeshift Taylor Swift #GirlSquad, Sam was the only one who didn’t act like Nancy Reagan on crack. Upstairs while Sam is getting murdered, the rest of the house seems to have completely forgotten that a serial killer is on the loose and in the house and so they decide to play Seven Minutes in Heaven.
Unfortunately, the Clue portion of the episode is interrupted when even more screaming occurs from upstairs. The group then finds Chanel #5 standing over Rodger, who has just been killed by the Red Devil with a nailgun.

The fashion on Scream Queens may be to die for, but something has been puzzling us since we first started to see images for the show — and no, it’s not who the Red Devil is. Chanel #3, played by Billie Lourd, sports earmuffs in all of the promotional images we’ve seen so far — and in the entire pilot episode of the show… but it’s set in New Orleans where it’s most definitely not cold. Show co-creator Brad Falchuk talked to the Hollywood Reporter about the show’s premiere — if you’re worried about spoilers, beware, or catch up on our recap here — and while we’ll have to wait until episode 6 or 7 to find out why Chanel wears the ear warmers, it’ll be worth the wait.

How Many Killers Are There?
There are (at least) two killers, so that makes sense, right? Naturally, to find out more about the secrets that are getting people killed, Zayday decided to have a sleepover. And it’s not a sleepover with some Truth or Dare, Spin the Bottle and Seven Minutes in Heaven, right?
As the new presidents investigated the fancy, hidden tunnels, they got chased by the devil, and he/she caught Zayday — and out of no where, Chanel showed up to save the day. Yes, she has a human emotion after all! (She claimed it was just selfishness, but we’re not buying that.)

Oh yeah. That’s right, Lourd is wearing those earmuffs as an homage to the iconic hairstyle of her royal mother, the butt-kicking Princess Leia in the Star Wars series. Hopefully some of that blaster-wielding strength was passed down to one of the possibly-doomed targets of the Red Devil.
Because we’ll see those earmuffs at least a few more times: There is a very specific reason why she wears them, and you find out in either episode six or seven. We find out why she wears the earmuffs, but it’s not just fashion. The funny thing with that is that it didn’t start as a necessity.

We find out why she wears the earmuffs, but it’s not just fashion. It’s necessity. I have a feeling whatever the reason is, it might just hold even more Scream Queens ‘ secrets.

Who Ran Scream Queens For Two Years After Season One?
The campy, foul-mouthed world of Ryan Murphy’s Scream Queens returned for a second season on Fox last week, with a brand-new look — a hospital run by former university dean Cathy Munsch, two years after the terrorizing events of season one. But one thing that didn’t change is Chanel No. 3’s (Billie Lourd) penchant for wearing a colorful array of earmuffs, which she happily flaunts in 99.9 percent of the scenes she’s featured in. (We imagine Lourd’s mother, Carrie Fisher, is most certainly proud of this little homage.)
