What Is The Name Of The Live Action French Film Version Of Beauty And The Beast?
Beauty and the Beast is on Netflix! Before you get excited, though, it’s sadly not the Emma Watson/Dan Stevens one you’re probably obsessed with. A live action French film version of the fairy tale, La Belle et la Bete, aka Beauty and the Beast (2014), is now streaming on the service (and you can watch it in either its original French or in a decent English dubbing).
Depends on what you most like about the classic fairy tale. The French film is a lot more slow-moving than the modern Disney classic. For instance, the first fifteen minutes alone felt like an hour to me, so it’s hard for me to imagine many children will possess the attention span needed to soldier through it.
Everything is lit by candlelight or bathed in a misty sort of gloam. Instead of a singing candelabra, we get cute little critters and a magical pool of water. There are no blithe musical numbers here.
It’s an aesthetic wonderland, but a rather flimsy fairy tale film. Stream Beauty and the Beast (2014) on Netflix
