Winston and Cece bond over their hatred of camping, while Nick is desperate to make this idea work even if finding a toxic fish is the best he can do. At the end, even in the hospital, they are able to find the true meaning of the holiday which is the same as it always is: being together.
2 – Thanksgiving (Season 1 Episode 6) In the first installment of their Thanksgiving episodes, Jess decides to throw a big Thanksgiving dinner at the apartment against her roommates’ wishes, who just want to have their usual ‘Dudes-giving.’ But really, it’s just an excuse to invite her crush from work, Paul (Justin Long). Between the turkey catching fire in the dryer, Schmidt meeting his match in Cece, and Paul’s awkward presence, the gang ends up accidentally happening upon their dead neighbor.
So if I’m gonna do this, I’m cooking the whole meal. And I don’t wanna hear ‘Schmidt Schmidt, you’re using too much tarragon,’ because I’m not. 1 – Thanksgiving IV (Season 4 Episode 9) Since everybody is single at the same time, Schmidt takes the opportunity to declare “Bangsgiving.”
When Coach brings Ryan as her blind date setup, Jess is torn between seducing him and running away screaming. Despite some initial awkwardness, Coach, Winston, and Nick’s setups seem to work out. Even Jess makes the decision (albeit probably an inappropriate one) to give in to her feelings for Ryan.
Schmidt is smitten; Cece is reluctantly happy she ended up with Schmidt; Nick is insane; Jess is adorable; Coach is competitive but sweet; and Winston is, as usual, underrated in his comedic timing. And I love my job and I worked hard to get it.
Who Plays Jess On New Girl?
It’s Thanksgiving and for New Girl fans, perhaps the best time of the year. Jess (played by Zooey Deschanel), Schmidt (Max Greenberg), Cece (Hannah Simone), Winston (LaMorne Morris), and Nick (Jake Johnson) sure knew how to celebrate Thanksgiving, so much so, five episodes out of the show’s seven seasons were dedicated specifically to the holiday. Newsweek has ranked the best New Girl Thanksgiving episodes of all time, which are available to stream and download via Netflix now.
In a desperate attempt to defrost the turkey in time, the gang places it in a dryer, leading it to catch fire. Amid all of the chaos, Thanksgiving sets up the two huge romantic arcs of the show, Nick and Jess and Schmidt and Cece, so maybe Jess’ party idea was not so terrible after all. After the unbearable awkwardness, Coach (Damon Wayans Jr.), Winston, and Nick’s dates seem to work out and Jess decides to follow her heart and tell her colleague Ryan (Julian Morris) her true feelings.
Season 2, Episode 8: Parents What makes this Thanksgiving episode so great is the arrival of Jamie Lee Curtis and Rob Reiner as Jess’ parents. There are some moments of comedy gold in Parents, particularly between Schmidt and his cousin Big Schmidt, who go head to head to find out who is more macho than the other. Season 5, Episode 7: Last Thanksgiving The last Thanksgiving episode, aptly titled Last Thanksgiving, has made it towards the bottom of the list.
To start with, Nick is miserable that his girlfriend Reagan (Megan Fox) is missing Thanksgiving in the loft, so resorts to serving half an onion and a bottle of whiskey as his side dish of choice. Jess’ annoying boyfriend Robby (Nelson Franklin) has made it to the celebrations though, alongside Schmidt’s depressed father Gavin (Peter Gallagher), who Jess once shared a kiss with. Everything, particularly in Jess’ eyes.
As predicted, Jess, Nick, Winston, Cece, and Schmidt are not the outdoors type and things go disastrously wrong, resulting in Jess taking a trip to the hospital after eating a rotten fish. The best thing about Thanksgiving III is Coach is back. Damon Wayans Jr. appeared in the pilot episode of New Girl and reprised the role in Seasons 3 and 4.
How Many Seasons Did New Girl Run?
New Girl was a Fox series that ran for seven seasons about Jess Day, a quirky teacher, who moves into a loft in LA with three men after she discovers her boyfriend has been cheating on her. In doing so they end up spending several, memorable Thanksgiving holidays together. Below is a subjective rating of the episodes, ranked from good to great.
After not including a Thanksgiving episode in Season 5, Season 6 returned to the tradition of a dysfunctional holiday meal in the loft. Schmidt invites his father to join in the festivities, only for him to arrive completely broken-hearted. Meanwhile, Jess navigates her complicated relationship with Robbie who is currently in a wheelchair due to a series of painful accidents caused by Jess in previous episodes.
Cece, Schmidt, and Coach are in a bit of an awkward place because Cece and Coach went on one date and then she never called him back and Schidmt is obviously still in love with her at this point. The group ends up celebrating in her hospital room. The ending captures what makes these Thanksgiving episodes so important to this show.
Jess hasn’t dated seriously since her breakup with Nick, and there is a rule that she can’t date a teacher while she is the vice principal, yet Coach knows there’s something between them worth perusing. Coach is intimidated by his date’s upper body strength and Winston reveals his fear of lunch ladies while Nick brings his elderly friend Tran as his so-called date. Her plan ends up creating a longstanding tradition for the group, but with some casualties along the way. Parents Season 2, Episode 8 The second Thanksgiving episode, Parents in Season 2 is the best Thanksgiving episode in the series. It finds a way to somehow be funnier and more dysfunctional than the previous Thanksgiving episode which literally included a dead body and a burnt turkey.
Who Is The Perfect Leader For All The Loft Holiday Celebrations?
The holidays are a time for getting together with all the people you love most in the world… including the fictional ones. And there’s no group of fictional friends more fun to hang out with holiday season after holiday season than the New Girl characters. Jessica Day’s unbridled enthusiasm for all things crafty and festive makes her the perfect leader for all the loft holiday celebrations, and it makes all the New Girl Thanksgiving episodes a real treat to watch.
Since so much of New Girl is centered on the loft roommates (plus Cece) hanging out in their downtown Los Angeles home, it makes perfect sense that the series did such a good job of celebrating Thanksgiving, which is the ultimate hang-out holiday. Of course, Jess’ (Zooey Deschanel) plans for the perfect loft Thanksgiving often get foiled by all the guys’ hijinks (and a few of her own), but that’s what makes the New Girl Thanksgiving episodes just so memorable. Season 6, Episode 7: “Last Thanksgiving” Let’s just clarify one thing right away: Even the least kooky Thanksgiving episode of New Girl is still pretty kooky.
I don’t think it gets more quintessentially Nick Miller than that. While Reagan doesn’t show up, Jess’ boyfriend Robby (Nelson Franklin) and Schmidt’s dad Gavin (Peter Gallagher) do, and they nearly ruin the perfect meal Jess is determined to get on the table. Season 2, Episode 8: “Parents” 20th Century The New Girl Thanksgiving episodes usually have major Friendsgiving vibes, but this Season 2 episode brings some big family moments to the loft.
For the New Girl gang, Thanksgiving is all about being with the people you want to hook up with — at least in this episode. Schmidt decrees the holiday as “Bangsgiving,” and everyone brings someone to set up with another member of the gang. Season 3, Episode 10: “Thanksgiving III” The New Girl Season 3 Thanksgiving episode might be a dark horse in the competition for kookiest episode.
But it’s this trip to the woods that makes this episode just so kooky. The gang decides to go back to their roots by spending Thanksgiving out in the wild, which results in one of Jess’ weirdest moments ever: She eats a rotten old fish and loses her mind… at least until a trip to the hospital sets her right again. Season 1, Episode 6: “Thanksgiving” The number one spot has to go to the original New Girl Thanksgiving episode.
What Does Schmidt Make Sure Paul Isn’T The Turkey’S Name?
She then asks what he’s doing for Thanksgiving. Paul tells her that his grandmother recently passed, around Halloween, which explains the depressing lyrics of the Halloween play the school put on that year. Schmidt makes sure Paul isn’t the turkey’s name.
Jess wants to know if anyone knows anything about cooking. Schmidt suggests maybe she shouldn’t ask a guy out on the least sexy holiday of the year. Jess gets Paul a beer and tells the guys that Paul brought his violin and might play later but, Paul says, only if they don’t mind being enchanted.
Nick joins and asks what they’re up to. Schmidt needs walnuts. Nick’s in his 30s.
Paul tells them not to give up and tells Schmidt he wants to try the food he’s been cooking all day. Cece tells her she is turned on by Schmidt yelling at her. Schmidt suggests Paul play something before they start.
Paul dances around the living room to an open door and comes back shrieking dead body. After the paramedics take the body away, Paul is totally shaken given the recent experience of his own grandmother passing. He gets on the elevator and is joined by the paramedics wheeling the dead neighbor, who he can’t seem to escape.
