Netflix Can’t Affect “Longmire”

“Longmire” was a Western crime drama focusing on Walt Longmire, the nonplussed sheriff of Absaroka County, Wyoming. The show has been over for years now. But fans of the show were left wondering why Netflix canceled the Western after just six seasons.

At the time, it was the highest-rated drama the network had ever carried, deepening the mystery as to why they’d cancel it. “Longmire” showrunner Craig Johnson believed A&E canceled the show because it wanted to own and produce all the shows it airs, according to TVwriter.com. Netflix is giving Western Longmire a proper send-off. The streaming giant has renewed the Katee Sackhoff starrer for a sixth and final season, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. Season six, which will consist of 10 episodes, will premiere in 2017 in the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Most importantly, we’re committed to delivering a dynamic and satisfying conclusion to our fans that rewards their longtime loyalty,” executive producers Greer Shephard, Hunt Baldwin and John Coveny said. “We are proud to be the home of the Longmire series, as so many viewers over the last few seasons have watched and been captivated by Walt’s (Robert Taylor) journey.

Longmire, based on the Walt Longmire novels from author Craig Johnson, co-stars Lou Diamond Phillips, Cassidy Freeman, Adam Bartley and A. Martinez. The series moved to Netflix after sources say the drama skewed too old for A&E, which canceled Longmire after three seasons.
