Netflix Review – YOU – The Latest Psychological Terror Available on Netflix

Based on Carole Kepnes’s book of the same name, YOU is the latest psychological thriller available on Netflix. A show which critics love to hate and everyone else loves to binge; YOU has become one of the biggest shows on the platform. You’ll find yourself binge-watching this show and hating yourself for sympathizing with the problematic protagonist.

A tense show filled with twists, YOU showcases an old cliché from the point of view of the stalker. He begins following her around, hacks into her social media and lurks outside her house to learn more about her. By doing so, he hopes to become the perfect man for her.

Hounded by his ex-girlfriend and in the pursuit of his next (who is annoyingly named Love), season two offers an insight into what made Joe the way he is. II. Cast & Performances Penn Badgley plays Joe the attractive bookstore manager with an unhealthy obsession for his crush.

Who Is Joe Goldberg’S New Love?

When we last left Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) and his new love Love (Victoria Pedretti), they were trying to leave their bloody past behind in suburban bliss (with a baby on the way, to boot!). Opening Shot: Joe smiles that classic Joe smile, walking us through the events of his past and his commitment to finding “the one”. The Gist: Hello, you.

While Joe struggles to connect with Henry and Love’s efforts to fit in with the town’s queen bees largely fail, the couple are somewhat miserable in their lives. The two quietly eye-fuck one another on a regular basis, and after one almost-sexual encounter, Joe decides to go home and spice things up with Love again (mainly for the sake of helping keep his family together). After they finally have sex, things look up for a moment; Joe finally starts to bond with Henry, and Love decides to pursue her dream of opening a bakery in town.

Frankly, I never really expected the show to be more than some slightly sexy and mostly murderous trash, but boy, has it surprised me; in its second season, You shook things up by adding Pedretti to the cast and making her a worthy partner for our antihero. Season 3 only continues this upward trajectory, leaning into some of the more ridiculous things that make You so fun to watch and deftly weaving in fascinating gender dynamics and social commentary. Season 3 is armed with all the twists and turns one might possibly want from a show as twisted as You, and with a fresh batch of delightfully deranged new characters, there’s no shortage of new potential victims (or murderers.

Ever since she broke out on The Haunting of Hill House, she’s been doing simply extraordinary work, able to break our hearts and shake us up in one fell swoop. Even when she’s killing someone or manipulating another, it’s hard to hate her; Pedretti’s screen presence is so electrifying it makes every scene – even the most mundane – worth watching. Most Pilot-y Line: There are so many great little throwaway lines in the first installment of Season 3, but some of Joe’s narration can be a little corny, like “I’d always believed the one was out there…”.
