When the summer ends, everyone goes back to their usual occupations: there are those who return to the office, some among the school desks, and find themselves resuming their routine. Of course, for a few days we will still enjoy that relaxation that we enjoyed during the holidays. There are those who have been around visiting cities, some in the mountains and some by the sea even if, as we know, in Italy the latter option is undoubtedly the most popular. But how do we understand what kind of vacationer we are? Simple, we recognize the beach tourist from the tan!
Sunspots
Everyone (or almost) loves a tan, even if there are those who have the ability to spend whole days under the sun and those who, after a few minutes, would already like to escape. But regardless of this, everyone likes to show an enviable tan when they return to town. Sometimes, however, our skin, exposed to the sun’s rays, plays some tricks on us, presenting spots called sunspots on the skin. The latter are nothing more than a blemish that can be of different nature and caused by different factors: usually it is a disorder caused by the excessive production and accumulation of melanin at the cellular level. Then there is melasma, which is gray to brown in color and typically develops on the face, especially on the forehead, cheekbones and upper lip, and can be caused by hormonal changes. A completely different type of spots, on the other hand, are senile lentigos, brown and of various sizes that usually develop after the age of 40 on the face, hands and in the neckline area. With keratoses – small irregular, dark and rough patches – special attention must be paid. They are typical of men after 40 and deserve a thorough examination by the dermatologist.
The causes of sunspots and possible remedies
Usually, sunspots occur due to the combination of two factors: the intake of drugs such as antibiotics, oral contraceptives, antidepressants or corticosteroids, then followed by photoexposure, thus leading to photosensitization of our skin or photoallergy. In addition to the obvious advice to contact your doctor and maybe even a dermatology specialist to ascertain the origin and nature of the spots on our skin, the market also offers us a series of high quality products, such as those of Kiehl’s, able to solve any type of problem for any type of skin and blemish.
