Causes

Meadowsweet
Meadowsweet is an analgesic and anti-inflammatory remedy, properties given by the presence of salicylic glycosides. It is used by administering it orally as a food supplement in acute painful manifestations. Meadowsweet isn’t the only plant based on salicylates: white willow, ash and poplar also contain them and can be used to combat pain, always in the acute phase. These plants have the advantage of not causing damage to the gastric mucosa and stomach upset, a typical effect of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Although they are considered safe remedies, these plants they must not be used for long periods and are contraindicated in people allergic to salicylates.
Boswellia
Boswellia is a plant known for its pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory properties and is especially recommended in case of joint pain. Its action is given by the presence of boswellic acids and essential oil, concentrated in the gum resin extracted from the bark. As with salicylate-based remedies, bowsellia is believed to be safe and does not cause the typical stomach side effects like NSAIDs and can be taken by people allergic to salicylates.
