NFT, virtual fashion and digital reproduction of the gestation and development of a fetus: the virtual bag called ‘Baby Birkin’ was created by two artists to celebrate life but also the iconic Hermes luxury bag model.
Birkin by Hermes, the virtual edition with a fetus
Virtual and high fashion world merge: ‘Baby Birkin’ is the digital bag created by artists Mason Rothschild and Eric Ramirez in collaboration with Basic Space e-commerce. It is a virtual bag, an art installation that replicates the iconic Birkin model signed by the Hermes brand (which has nothing to do with the artistic and commercial operation of Rothschild and Ramirez).
Almost everything normal, except that the virtual exchange is called ‘Baby Birkin’ precisely because it contains a fetus inside. A transparent model of Birkin, suspended in an astral landscape and inside which we see the evolution of a fetus in the belly. The two artists wanted to recreate the gestation and creation of life, referring to theBirkin bag luxury icon. In the background a suggestive music that creates atmosphere.
In a post on Basic Space’s Instagram profile, the identity of ‘Baby Birkin’ is summarized:
“Baby Birkin” is an NFT artwork by @masonrothschild and @ericram_. The 2000 × 2000 3D max animation is accompanied by a soundscape, which amplifies this pregnancy illustration with an enigmatic creation and an ironic nod to the iconic bag. The Birkin, from French luxury goods manufacturer Hermes, has been revered as a symbol of luxury since its introduction in the 1980s.
Hermes Birkin with fetus: what are NFTs
NFT stands for Not Fungible Token and consists of a unique and unrepeatable encrypted token. It is, in essence, a virtual certificate of authenticity, the documentation of which is stored in the blockchain. Through i NFT the uniqueness of the virtual object possessed can be attested and its originality with respect to copies can be affirmed. Unique pieces, often sold at auction for a huge amount of money, which pushes people to purchase luxury goods that are no longer real but virtual, exploring a new field of the web. There are many examples of famous NFTs, starting with animated gifs up to very first tweet in the history of social media Twitter. This type of asset is also expanding into the fashion sector, enjoying great success. This is the case of the Baby Birkin created by Mason Rothschild and Eric Ramirez.
In the field of virtual fashion, the famous digital shoes by Gucci had also established themselves: in that case, however, it is not a single NFT certified product but a mass product, of which there is not only a copy.
