Ecological diet: what is it?
The ecological diet, also called sustainable, is not a simple food diet, but a real lifestyle and nutritional model, which is based on the concept of a “low impact diet”, that is to say, to improve the health of the planet and ours. In other words, it is a diet that, according to the scientific literature, is able to mitigate polluting emissions, malicious precisely for the environment that surrounds us.
Therefore, we can say that this type of diet has a dual function.
On the one hand, aims to prevent diseases that are harmful to our body such as those related to eating disorders (obesity, diabetes) and on the other, a reduce air, sea and land pollution.
Types of ecological diets
The sustainable diet includes within it five types of diets:
- vegan diet (only plant sources)
- vegetarian diet (no meat and fish)
- pescetarian diet (no meat)
- Mediterranean diet
- climatic carnivorous diet.

If it were not yet clear, the issue of environmental sustainability does not only concern companies in the sector. but also all other fields, starting with nutrition. And if you still haven’t understood how food is involved with the surrounding environment and with pollution, just think very simply about it high amounts of greenhouse gases we release into the environment from the production to the consumption of food, from the use of unsuitable and non-local products to the excessive consumption of non-biodegradable materials such as plastic.
But how to feed yourself in a sustainable way? According to it IEO, the European Oncological Institute, food that respects the planet and our body is possible and consists of: fruit and vegetables, healthy proteins (fish, white meats, eggs, dried fruit, cheeses), whole grains.
After all, if we start to prefer sustainable food it is also healthier for us but at the same time good and happy for our spirit.
