The Satan Shoes, designed by the MSCHF collective of artists and promoted by rapper Lil Nas X, have been withdrawn from the market: blood in the sole and pentacles caused a sensation.
Satan Shoes: the satanic details
After the Jesus Shoes with holy water in the soles, the Brooklyn art collective MSCHF in collaboration with rapper Lil Nas X produced the Satan Shoes.
It is, in essence, one customization of the iconic Nike Air Max 97 with satanic symbols and motifs.
The Nike Air Max 97 model is black and some details have been added: the inverted cross on the tongue, a pentacle-shaped pendant on the laces (also referred to inside the insole with the initials of the collective), in the inner tube of the sole there is red paint with a drop of human blood.
Also, on the side of the shoe, there is a sentence: Luke 10:18. The reference is obviously to a verse of the Bible, in particular to the Gospel of Luke which reports the following sentence: “I saw Satan fall from heaven like lightning”.
The sale of the Satan Shoes was a success, so much so that the 666 items on the market (not surprisingly 666 is known as the number of the devil) were all sold at a price of 1018 dollars.
Satan Shoes and the controversy with Nike: withdraw
The Satan Shoes have sparked numerous criticisms and a great stir, especially after the Nike brand denounced the collective of artists and the rapper Lil Nas X. They are accused by the well-known brand of trademark infringement, unfair competition and other accusations: in practice Nike wanted to emphasize its distance from this project. The famous brand has therefore won the case, obtaining the withdrawal from the market of Satan Shoes. Not only that: the 666 models already sold will have to be returned. Following an agreement between the parties, the collective will fully reimburse the buyers.
