Discovering the Chanel camellia farm, an open-air organic laboratory in the south of France where the symbolic flower of the fashion brand is grown and hand-picked.
Chanel’s Camellia Farm
There camellia, delicate flower and perfect in its forms, has always been a symbol of the Chanel fashion brand.
From beauty products to bags, from patterns to limited edition boxes, Chanel has always been inspired by this beautiful flower. Coco Chanel, its founder, saw the camellia as a perfect flower to represent her idea of style and beauty: simple, not very fragrant, less showy than the rose. Camellia is a symbol ofelegance and style simple but classy.
Not only that: it is extracted from the camellia the active ingredient which is the basis of numerous cosmetic products of the brand. Precisely for this reason, the Chanel company has decided to open its own ‘camellia farm’ in the south of France. Here the famous flowers so dear to the founder Coco are grown, which are picked by hand with delicacy and without aggressive chemical processes.

A sustainable laboratory
A real bio production laboratory, which also takes into account the nature and process of agroforestry, that is, the reintegration of trees into the cultivated land in order not to upset the balance of the ecosystem. The camellia farm takes up well 40 hectares in the town of Gaujacq, in the Landes district, in France. Two varieties of the flower are grown here: Camellia Japonica Alba Plena and Oleifera. The active ingredient that will be the basis of Chanel creams and cosmetic products will then be extracted from them. Not only production and collection, but also a open air analysis laboratory within which the characteristics of this wonderful flower are deepened. The farm was born from an old abandoned structure, a former farm literally ‘flourished’.
