Finally, when it comes to Ant-Man and the Wasp and Thor: Ragnarok, both take place immediately before Infinity War, so can be watched in either order. Ant-Man and the Wasp’s post-credits scene, though, runs simultaneously alongside Thanos’ Snap, while Ragnarok’s post-credits only take us to the beginning of Infinity War. In-universe, the snap takes place in 2018 even though there’s absolutely no reference to Thanos wiping out half the world in Agents of Shield season 6.

Loki, meanwhile, takes place outside of our conception of time. Loki really is a confusing one – but if you’re tackling the MCU, this is probably the place it makes sense to watch, otherwise you’ll be waiting years for more multiverse shenanigans. Eternals takes place after Avengers: Endgame, and most likely just after Spider-Man: Far From Home.

When Did Loki Introduce The Multiverse?

Spider-Man: No Way Home has arrived in cinemas and unlike some other Phase 4 outings, it’s really easy to place on the timeline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The new movie picks up straight from Far From Home’s cliffhanger where Spider-Man’s identity was revealed to the world. See, nice and straightforward for once – unlike some other Phase 4 movies and TV shows which have been all over the timeline.

Marvel Studios We suggest watching Loki after Avengers: Endgame (as that’s when 2012’s Loki breaks off into his own timeline) and What If…? One note on our timeline: if something takes place in multiple time periods (such as Eternals), we’ve put it where the bulk of the movie or TV show takes place. There are slight exceptions you might want to take, such as not watching the Ant-Man and The Wasp credits scene until after Avengers: Infinity War, but it just depends on how dedicated you are to the order.
