When Did Netflix Pick Up The License To Evil From Cbs?

Netflix picked up the license to Evil from CBS in October 2020 and while season 2 has aired, it won’t be coming to Netflix. In fact, season 1 of Evil is set to leave Netflix on October 1st, 2021. Created by Michelle and Robert King (behind The Good Wife which was removed from Netflix some time ago) the TV series follows a group of differently qualified detectives who investigate paranormal crimes and events.

Airing back in September 2019, season 1 of Evil eventually arrived on Netflix USA (no other regions were licensed to or expected) on October 1st, 2020. Season 2 moved from CBS to Paramount+ (this probably tells you why the show won’t be coming back to Netflix) and has already been renewed for season 3. The series has premiered strong on Netflix US peaking at position number 4 on the TV charts on October 6th, 2020.

As Deadline reported back when the series first came to Netflix, the deal on Netflix getting Evil was for a single-year license (meaning it only covered season 1). In the report, it stated that “CBS TV Studios sees the Netflix licensing deal as a promotional tool”. When will Evil season 2 be on Netflix?

What Is The Name Of Cbs’ Personal Streaming Service?

Bad news for Evil fans. There are no current plans for Evil Season 2 to go to Netflix, confirms What’s On Netflix. The news isn’t all that shocking given that the show recently moved to Paramount+, CBS’s personal streaming service.

Netflix even had permission to stream the show’s first season because they made a deal for a single-year license, which was specifically for the first season. CBS is being more stingy about making these licensing deals now because it has its own service, which wouldn’t be beneficial to them. Putting Evil Season 1 on Netflix for a while was a smart marketing tactic from the network as it allowed Evil to find a bigger audience during the lengthy hiatus between seasons.

Where can you watch Evil Season 2? Right now, the only places you can watch the second season are on Paramount+ with a paid subscription. In the future, you might be able to purchase the second season at least, either digitally or via a physical release.

Evil Season 1 is leaving Netflix soon The cherry on top of all of this is that Netflix’s licensing deal for Evil Season 1 will soon expire. On the plus side, you still have a full month ahead of you, which is plenty of time to catch up on the first and second seasons.

Season 2 premiered on Sunday, June 20 with “N is for Night Terrors,” which pits Kristen and the demon Leland against each other as she and her fellow investigators must assess whether he’s possessed. It’s an episode that’s sure to stand hairs on end as Kristen’s hiding a dark secret involving the murder of a serial killer, and Leland is likely to sniff out that reality with delightfully evil glee. But with some shake ups in CBS’ line-up in the lead up to the show’s second season debut, it’s understandable if fans are a little lost on where to watch the series.

Where to stream Evil season 2 Back in May, Evil became a Paramount+ exclusive, which moved the series from a network program to a streaming original. Unfortunately, fans without a subscription to the streamer will be unable to watch the series. New episodes will drop weekly on Sundays.

The first season of the show has been available to watch on Netflix since October 2020, but with the series’ move from CBS to Paramount+, that well is set to run dry. Both seasons of Evil are available to stream now on Paramount+.

Robert and Michelle King have been one of the handful of network drama producers who have proved over the past decade that network dramas still have the potential to be layered, smart, surprising and funny. But, after her testimony, she’s called back to the interrogation room by David Acosta (Mike Colter). She thinks he’s working for the defense.

Acosta pays her a visit and wants her to work with him. He doesn’t actually work for the defense; he works for the Catholic Church, investigating claims of possession. Though she’s a lapsed Catholic, Acosta wants Kristen’s skeptical eye when it comes to questioning this defendant and his wife, who claims to have heard a growling noise when her husband first showed that he was overtaken by something.

She is surprised to find out from Ben that Acosta is training to be a priest. She’s almost convinced the guy is possessed, but her skepticism leads her to find out someone stole Dr. Boggs’ notes on her sessions from his office. She finds it’s a forensic psychologist named Leland Townsend (Michael Emerson), who Acosta tells Kristen is a psychopath who encourages people to murder, finding people on social media.

They are applying all of that to Evil, while mixing in a bit of scary demons and stuff. But the demons aren’t that scary. But the show will come down to the chemistry between Colter and Herbers, and that’s pretty well established in the first episode.

As long as the Kings keep that relationship right where it is now, and make the surrounding characters as well-rounded as the side characters on Good Wife, Evil should have a good run. Parting Shot: To celebrate closing the serial killer case, Kristen drinks canned margaritas in her house with Acosta and Ben, and the next case they look at (there’s a backlog) isn’t a possession, it’s a “miracle”. That’s the bad line; Kristen’s response is priceless: “Oh, boy, do you have that right.”
