✖ Avatar The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra fans were blown away earlier this year when it was announced that Paramount was creating a new studio to give the world of bending new animated series and movies in the future, revisiting the beloved franchise. However, it seems that fans of bending will be waiting for quite some time to see the new material that revisits the universe of Aang and Korra, with creator Bryan Kontiezko confirming as much in a recent interview to chat about what Avatar Studios is currently up to since being formed. In an interview with Rise Up Animation, an organization dedicated to providing support to all People of Color with the goal of helping diverse talent Rise Up in the Animation Industry, Kontiezko broke down that fans of the bending franchise will be waiting years to see the new movies and television series while describing the current team that is being put together in order to do so: Mike and I, we’re building an awesome team very slowly at Avatar Studios, a small team but we’re working our way up.
We’ve got a bunch of cool stuff in the works. (Photo: Nickelodeon) Recently, it was revealed that the upcoming films that will revisit the world of Avatar The Last Airbender, and The Legend of Korra will be created via computer-generated animation, marking a big departure from the two-dimensional animation of the original series. While the subject matter for the movies and televisions series has yet to be revealed, as well as whether or not they’ll take place in the past or the future of the universe, it’s clear that the original creators of the series are on board with creating new bending adventures.

What Franchise Went From 0 To 160 Really Fast?
It seemed like the Avatar: The Last Airbender franchise went from 0 to 160 really fast. The original Nickelodeon animated series is still beloved by fans, but the last new Avatar content came out in 2014, when The Legend of Korra aired its series finale. Suddenly, Netflix is producing a live-action remake of the original show and original series creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino re-teamed with Nickelodeon to found Avatar Studios, which will create even more Avatar content.
They started Avatar Studios, and they’re well on their way in development on a series of CG films and a new Avatar series. So we’re getting CG animated Avatar movies — think Pixar films, only probably not as well animated — and a new TV show; we don’t know whether that one will be CG animated, have the more traditional hand-drawn look of the earlier series, or what. The new Last Airbender movies and show could go anywhere We also don’t know what these new movies and TV shows could be about. They could make new stories starring Avatar we’ve already met — like Aang from The Last Airbender or Korra from The Legend of Korra — or introduce entirely new sets of characters.
However the show ends up looking and what it’s going to be about, expect to be available on both Nickelodeon and Paramount+, which is ViacomCBS’ streaming service. Is there such a thing as too much Avatar: The Last Airbender? We’ll find out soon enough.

What Is The Name Of Nickelodeon’S Spinoff Series?
The popularity of The Last Airbender on Netflix is also driving viewers to stream spinoff series The Legend of Korra on Paramount+. Fans of Nickelodeon’s “Avatar: The Last Airbender” got extraordinary news in February when ViacomCBS announced it was bringing creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko back to expand the franchise with new series and films via the creation of Avatar Studios. The show experienced a boom in popularity during the pandemic when all three seasons became available to stream on Netflix starting May 15, 2020.
“Then we put this spinoff of ‘Avatar,’ ‘The Legend of Korra,’ on Paramount+, and it crushed it. ‘” Licensing “Avatar” to Netflix paid off in two ways: It proved Nickelodeon should invest in the expansion of the franchise and it drove viewers to ViacomCBS’ streaming platform Paramount+ in order to stream “The Legend of Korra.” As Robbins revealed, it’s not the only time the new streamer got a significant boost thanks to Netflix.
“We knew we were going to do a reboot of ‘iCarly,’ it just took us a while to put it together. Once we knew we had it going, we licensed just a season or two of ‘iCarly’ to Netflix and it exploded with new kids discovering it for the first time, and fans who grew up on it rediscovered it. The demand for the new show was at such a fever pitch by the time [the new show] launched that it propelled ‘iCarly’ to be, if not the most successful show on Paramount+, one of the most successful shows.”
“It’s hard to believe it’s been 19 years since we created ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender.’ But even after all that time, there are still many stories and time periods in Aang’s world that we are eager to bring to life,” Konietzko and DiMartino said in a statement earlier this year. “We are fortunate to have an ever-growing community of passionate fans that enjoys exploring the Avatarverse as much as we do.

When Did Avatar: The Last Airbender First Air On Nickelodeon?
She’s the one who got me hooked. When Avatar: The Last Airbender first aired on Nickelodeon, she wasn’t quite old enough to fully track the narrative. Yet I’d still find her glued to the TV every week, captivated by the adventures of Aang and his friends (who would quickly become her friends).
That my daughter was able to see characters who looked like her on screen was more than just entertaining. It was a gift. Flash forward 15 years.
VFX technology has advanced to the point where a live-action version can not only faithfully translate what had been done in animation — it can bring a rich new visual dimension to a fantastic world. Also, Netflix’s format meant we had an opportunity to reimagine a story that had originally been told in self-contained half-hour episodes as an ongoing serialized narrative. This was a chance to showcase Asian and Indigenous characters as living, breathing people.
Aang is not going to be a gritty antihero. Think of the possibilities.) We’ll be expanding and growing the world, and there will be surprises for existing fans and those new to the tale.

What Is The Name Of The Division Created To Create Original Avatar: The Last Airbender Content?
Nickelodeon last month announced the launch of Avatar Studios, a division designed to create original Avatar: The Last Airbender content spanning animated series and movies set in the franchise’s world. The first project of the studio, led by the original series’ creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, is an animated theatrical film that is set to start production later this year. In an interview with Deadline tied to the Nickelodeon upfront presentation, the network president Brian Robbins lifted the veil a bit on the plans for the franchise beyond the first feature announced at the ViacomCBS Streaming Event presentation.
“Mike and Bryan are hard at work, and I think that universe will encompass definitely a theatrical film, animation, certainly multiple TV series and probably multiple films. I think we will be ready very soon to tell the world what is coming first but we are not there yet because we’re in early stages of creative development.” The new series will join the two existing Avatar animated series, Nickelodeon’s 2005 Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, which have reached a new generation of young fans through streaming on Netflix.
The deal for that series was made before Robbins joined Nickelodeon, and he hinted that most projects through the Avatar Studios would likely remain within the ViacomCBS ecosystem, with Paramount+ and Nickelodeon and primary destinations. (The studio also is designed to supply third-party platforms and create movies for theatrical release.) “We are excited about filling our own platforms today,” he said.
Avatar: The Last Airbender, which aired for three seasons, follows the adventures of the main protagonist Aang and his friends, who must save the world by defeating Fire Lord Ozai and ending the destructive war with the Fire Nation. The Legend of Korra launched on Nickelodeon in 2012 and ran for four seasons. The property was subsequently translated into a ongoing graphic novel series written by TV series co-creator DiMartino and a live-action feature film starring Dev Patel and directed by M. Night Shyamalan.
What Is The Name Of Avatar: The Last Airbender’S Official Youtube Channel?
Avatar: The Last Airbender’s official YouTube channel announced Friday that a new Avatar “series” is on the way, but no specifics as to the magnitude of the show were given in the passive reveal. The news came as part of an announcement of the channel’s Earth Day weekend celebration, which will be a three-day event on the channel starting April 22. The Earth Day event will include original videos, a livestream on each of the three days, and “a new, original series exclusively on this channel,” according to the announcement, which was quickly noticed by the fan site Avatar News.
It seems unlikely that it would be a full-fledged new entry in the Avatar universe, but it would also be a little surprising for the announcement to say “series” in relation to a franchise known for expansive storytelling. Whatever new Avatar content is headed to the YouTube channel, it won’t arrive until the final day of the weekend celebration. The Earth Day festivities will start on Thursday, April 22, and will continue for three days.
No matter what this new series is, we know for sure that Nickelodeon isn’t done with Avatar. In February, the company announced the formation of Avatar Studios, a studio dedicated to the series. The studio’s first project, which began production this year, will be an animated theatrical film set in the Avatar universe.
Update (April 17, 2:30 p.m.): An update to the YouTube page clarifies that the series is “a new, fan-led original discussion series,” as opposed to a new animated series, as many fans have speculated.
Who Will Play The Role Of Fire Lord Ozai?
Daniel Dae Kim is joining the “Avatar: The Last Airbender” live-action series at Netflix, Variety has confirmed. He will appear in the role of Fire Lord Ozai. The character is described as the ruthlessly-driven leader of the Fire Nation who demands everyone live up to his impossible standards, especially his teen son, Prince Zuko.
Kim joins previously announced series stars Gordon Cormier, Kiawentiio, Ian Ousley, and Dallas Liu. Cormier will star as Aang, with Kiawentiio set to play Katara. Ousley will play Sokka and Liu will play Zuko.

He is repped by UTA, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, and Gang Tyre.
Roseanne Liang is co-executive producer. They have since announced a new deal with Nickelodeon to establish Avatar Studios, which will create new animated series and films set within the “Avatar” universe. The animated version aired for three seasons on Nickelodeon from February 2005 to July 2008.
